Senator Chris Coons (D. DE) is joining his colleagues in demanding Speaker John Boehner (R. OH) and his Tea Party colleagues end their stupid and destructive shutdown:
They’ve already succeeded in shutting down our government. We can’t let them shut down our economy too.
A small group of House members have shown repeatedly that they’re not interested in governing responsibly to solve the problems facing our nation.
“We’re not going to be disrespected,” one Republican congressman said on Wednesday. “We have to get something out of this. And I don’t know what that even is.”
Join me in telling House Republicans that this is no way to govern, and demand that Speaker Boehner reopen the federal government:

That’s what we’re up against: Extremists who have placed ideology above the good of the country. While they are reveling in the government shutdown, millions of Americans are paying the price.
Head Start, food stamps, nutritional assistance for pregnant women and children, cancer trials, national parks, 800,000 federal employees — the impacts are wide-ranging. In the Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, we were told that 70 percent of our nation’s intelligence workforce had been furloughed and that our national security apparatus had been seriously undermined. As this shutdown drags on, veterans, seniors, college students and small businesses worry about programs they depend on.
The shutdown needs to end, and our nation cannot be allowed to default.
Will you join me in urging Speaker Boehner to reopen the federal government?

This shutdown is as embarrassing as it is frustrating. It is no way to govern.
I’m doing everything I can to get Congress to govern responsibly, but I need you to be right there with me.
Best–
Chris
