McKay Coppins is the lesser version of Dave Weigel: He covers the conservative movement for BuzzFeed, but unlike Weigel, he is totes into the Beltway. Coppins is one of those guys who thinks Joe Scarborough is insightful. He probably reads Maureen Dowd and laughs. I am guessing he's been to a few parties hosted by Sally Quinn.
Since Coppins is elbow-deep into #ThisTown bullshit, he predictably volleyed up a "both sides do it" on his Twitter feed:
This is what passes for insight from ye old BuzzFeed. It's almost a cliche at this point to point out this cliche, but at some point, when does this stop being a thing? When do Beltway brahs like McKay Coppins stop making statements like this? We nearly defaulted on our debt and pointlessly shut the government down because Republicans are still smarting after Barack Obama handed them their red asses TWICE. Republicans so lost the thread on what the shutdown was all about that their messaging became a discombobulating mess. McKay Coppins should ask himself why
Democrats should apologize, when Republicans were the ones
bragging about the shutdown
while simultaneously bitching about the shutdown.
Luckily for us, he wasn't done:
Of course they were heroic;
they held the line and stopped us from defaulting! ONE party was intent on crashing. ONE party said that default was no big deal. ONE party was refusing to go to conference on a budget. ONE party was throwing a tantrum like a bunch of spoiled brats.
The Beltway is always asking WHEN WILL THE GROWNUPS COME INTO THE ROOM AND SPANK THE CHILDREN? Even when Obama and the Democrats foolishly move to the center to acquiesce to Republicans and the media, it's never enough. WHEN WILL OBAMA LEAD? asks empty suit Leon Panetta. OBAMA ISN'T SHOWING LEADERSHIP, complains GOP hack Ron Fournier. OBAMA SHOULD CAVE, says concern troll Michael Kinsley. DEMOCRATS SHOULD APOLOGIZE, TOO, whines the next generation of Beltway hacks like McKay Coppins.
McKay Coppins was being a dopey smartass with that comment about Democrats being heroic, but you know what? I'll take it. For the first time in YEARS, this party grew a freaking spine. The president, the guy who has been foiled by these asshats time and time again, calmly gave Republicans the finger, even as Ron Fournier was locking arms with Rush Limbaugh. McKay, you are damn right I'm going to call them heroes, because they stood up to idiots like you who tried to make ridiculous false equivalencies.
But you know, I shouldn't be surprised. Because McKay Coppins is the same guy that wrote this:
Was Mitt Romney Right About Everything?
