I was one of the Dems who was FURIOUS at POTUS Obama for not having a public option and making health care mandatory.   But today I am one of few who has been on healthcare.gov, created an account, and enrolled in healthcare.  And today my motto is I LOVE THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT.   And I believe that if POTUS Obama and his administration did a better job of explaining how it works, more and more of America is going to love it as well.

Now if the pundits would a)get off it and b)stop berating it, more Americans might actually try it.

I went online at the initial offering.  And like millions of people it locked up on me;  But I didn't panic.  A large part of my family are computer programmers so I am familiar with software roll outs and development.  I understand that there are always problems and bugs in the beginning.

Two weeks later, I tried again. This time I got in.  Now there are still bugs but I am a very patient person.  And I did get quotes.  So the stupid pundits that say it doesn't work, are WRONG!   And I still say they don't need the site, so they should get the hell off the site so that real people who actually need to use it can get on.

The part I was unsure of was how the subisdies worked.  I didn't want to use the entire subsidy and end up owing a lot of money when tax time came through.   So I talked to my tax accountant and all I can say is WOW!

If people really knew the TRUTH about ACA, the GOP wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

If I was a Dem in the house I would spend the next year making certain that my constituency CLEARLY understood how it worked.  Because once people without insurance get on and see what is REALLY going on,  there will NEVER be anymore talk of going back to the old days.

Of course, this is exactly what the ACA haters in the GOP was afraid of which is why they timed everything around the rollout.

So kudos to POTUS Obama and the Dems that fought so hard to get it done.  Now finish the job by helping people to understand the entire picture ESPECIALLY how the subsidies work.   Because if you do that, then you won't have to worry about the GOP taking out ACA.  Once they get it, they will NEVER want to go back.

Hey I can actually go to the doctor now!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

BTW,  don't try to enroll on Healthcare.gov with a browser that is NOT IE.  Firefox DOES NOT WORK.

I REPEAT IF YOU USE FIREFOX BROWSER ON HEALTHCARE.GOV IT WON'T WORK!

Need to use Internet Explorer for it to work correctly.

      •  If you are asking about Firefox (7+ / 0-)

the reason I know is because I tried to create an account on Firefox and REPEATEDLY ran into problems.

As a loyal Firefox user, this is not the first time a new product and Firefox didn't like each other.   So I tried it on IE.  I have had absolutely no problems when I access the account on IE 10.  But I have nothing but  problems when I try with Firefox.

I grant you it's an assumption that the bug will occur with other browsers but like I said, I come from a family of programmers so I am familar with some of the potential issues.  My guess is that if it is crashing using a Firefox browser then it will probably do the same with other browsers that aren't IE.

I would suggest that FOR NOW anyone wanting to access it, use IE.    I'm sure that down the line, it will be corrected but for right now, use IE.

If this isn't what  you were asking about, please clarify.

The government which has a)been shut down for the past few weeks or the government that created such a buggy site??  LOL.

Look, I write this to relate experience.  You try for yourself and you will see.

Maybe this is a public bug report.  Maybe they are aware of it and working to fix it.  Maybe they don't have the funds to explain it.

But if I didn't switch away from Firefox to IE, I would still be trying to create an account.

So use the information as you will but if you are serious about getting online with the least frustration, use IE for now.

Yeah, that's as far as I got as well.  That's when it dawned on me that maybe the problem was Firefox and went and tried it with IE.  And since then no problems.

But if I go back and try to access the account via Firefox, well, it doesn't work.   That's why I posted the bug report.

It's still too slow and still got some minor bugs but it's working and if we could keep the darn pundits off the site, regular people might actually get on and see for themselves.

TEXAS!  I'm working to get Wendy Davis elected so we can expand Medicaid as well.

Maybe we can even amend our constitution so we can recall any politician that isn't elected with 50% or greater of registered voters like a current embarrassing meglomaniac that pretends to act in Texans best interest.

My report was specifically about healthcare.gov.   I have no doubt that the state exchanges are working much better.

But this stuff happens when customers make major changes to programs months before rollout and things don't get tested correctly.

However, bugs get fixed and speed improves.

I'm not going to give you private information nor do I care about numbers.

What I will say is that I am getting a silver policy for A LOT LESS MONEY than I am currently paying from the same company I already have with a much lower deductible.

Also, regarding the subsidy/tax credit.   You can use it all towards payment or some of it towards payment or none of it towards payment.  If you use none of it towards payment or some of it towards payment, you will still receive it when you file your income tax in the form of paying less taxes or a bigger refund.

So if  you lie about your income to get a big credit, you will get caught when you file.  And if you receive the subsidy, irregardless of your income, YOU HAVE TO FILE BY LAW!

I am seeing a lot of small businesses with less than 10 people, letting their employees select the plan they want on the exchange and then compensating the employee for the premium.

This strategy can be especially beneficial to the employee depending on how they use their subsidy.  If they use only part of their subsidy and let their employer pay the difference they can
a)get the policy that best fits their family
b)reduce their employers overall healthcare cost
c)reduce their tax burden or increase their refund at tax time.

So in the end ACA is going to be a win-win situation for everyone except the GOP who is opposing it.

We just have to get the word out that it is working and let nature takes its course as the website improves.
