The abortion restrictions passed by the Texas Legislature this summer and signed into law by Rick "3 things" Perry have been ruled unconstitutional and will not take effect as scheduled on Tuesday, a federal judge ruled today.
According to the Huffington Post, District Judge Lee Yeakel wrote Monday that the regulations "violated the rights of abortion doctors to do what they think is best for their patients and would unreasonably restrict a woman's access to abortion clinics."
During a special session of the legislature, State Senator Wendy Davis led a 13 hour filibuster against this bill, which could have eventually led to the closure of many of the states women's clinics, which provide many health services for low income and minority women.
This will be definitely be a setback for Rick Perry, who is expected to run for President again in 2016, but will be a boon to Wendy Davis, as she mounts a 2014 battle to become the next Governor of Texas.
