It's Halloween! Costume questions?
Do you listen to radio?

Avoiding the obvious question to ask on Halloween, I want to know if you listen to the radio? MP3's and iPods have changed everything. We used to have to listen to the radio to hear new songs. No longer. Most of what's on the radio has become primarily either computer-controlled song lists (songs we've heard for decades in some cases) or it's become "talk radio."

Another term for talk radio is "hate radio" because of what's discussed on the majority of those stations. I heard a new term for that recently ---> "tribal radio," because that's what it is. Folks are kept "in the bubble" by those radio hosts. Reality and facts aren't the least bit important anymore. In fact they are literally avoided and new "truthiness" crap Stephen Colbert™ or bald faced lies are inserted as facts instead.

Fortunately there is the internet where streaming radio and podcasts are available. I listen to both. Frankly, I listen to streaming radio most of the time. My favorite stations are two local stations. One is Radio Paradise which is located right here in Paradise, CA where I live.

The founder of this station, Bill Goldsmith along with his wife Rebecca, actually created the first streaming radio way back in the day when he worked at KFAT in Gilroy, CA which later became KPIG out of Freedom, CA (near Santa Cruz).

From Wikipedia:

In August 1995 Goldsmith inaugurated the world's first full-time webcast at KPIG

Another local radio station I listen to is our community radio which is both on air AND streams on the internet too. Guess who is responsible for their streaming? Mr. Bill Goldsmith. This station is very eclectic in what it has to offer. It's basically a DFH station with a Progressive agenda.

In my car I also listen to our local North State Public Radio station, which also streams

We also listen to DailyKos Radio and TWIB brought to you by Elon James White. We mostly listen to podcasts of TWIB and Justice Putman's show on DailyKos radio.

TWIB has at least four different shows. Two are "regular TWIB" shows. One is a Nerd show where they talk about new gadgets and the like. And another show is TWIB after dark where they talk about sex. The folks on all these shows rib on each other all the time. Sometimes the entire show devolves into these guys joking around.

Now on netrootsradio as you'd imagine are shows all day revolving around politics and what's what right now. Justice Putnam has a fantastic show about music. He really has his finger on the pulse as far as I'm concerned. You really should give his show a listen in real time or via podcast.

What radio and/or podcasts do you listen to?

Tagging tips - Search For Tags - Browse For Tags

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
