Suddenly up for grabs, because that one website was glitchy.
Today's
heavy dose of stupid:
After two election cycles of Democrats successfully marketing Obamacare to Hispanic voters, the health care law’s rocky start could turn into a bargaining chip for Republicans.
Latinos want affordable health care. Republicans don't want them to have affordable health care. Therefore, glitches in Obamacare rollout will push Latinos to the party that doesn't want them to have health care?
“This is an opening for Republicans because Latino optimism about expanding health care is starting to wane like the rest of the population,” said pollster Gabriel Sanchez, an associate professor of political science at the University of New Mexico. “The Republican strategy of hammering at the health care law could work among Latinos.”
You talk to a pollster, maybe that pollster has some
data proving this ridiculous notion? Of course not, because none exists! Instead, he talks about what "could" be. Here's what the data shows: Latinos supported Obamacare at twice the rate of whites. Disappointment in the rollout doesn't mean support for the party that wants to screw them out of affordable health care. This should be blindingly obvious.
Republican Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida has seized on the delay of the Spanish-language website.
“Hispanics have among the highest uninsured rates in the nation. Yet despite hundreds of millions of dollars devoted to a Spanish-language propaganda campaign, the Spanish-language Obamacare website hasn’t even been launched,” Rubio said in a recent statement. “It’s not fair to punish anyone for not buying Obamacare when the website they are supposed to buy it on doesn’t work.”
Uh, Rubio isn't seizing on the delay of the Spanish-language website to criticize inadequate access to health care for Latinos. He's doing so to
undermine affordable access to health care for Latinos. There's a reason Rubio has no juice with Latino voters (the data is
very clear on this), and pretending that he's somehow a spokesman for us betrays a shocking level of ignorance.
But as the Republican National Committee ramps up its Hispanic outreach, Obamacare’s problems will be a theme. Along with fumbling the rollout of the health care law, Obama failed to make good on his vow to pass immigration reform in his first year in office, and he has deported a record number of illegal immigrants, said Jennifer Korn, an RNC deputy political director.
Republicans will try and criticize Democrats for not passing immigration reform, when it's
Republicans who are blocking the Senate bill in the House?
Republicans will criticize Democrats for record number of deportations, when it is Republicans screaming for more such deportations?
Republicans will criticize Democrats for the botched Obamacare rollout, when it is Republicans who have undermined the law from day one, and have refused to make the quick technical fixes that would quickly improve matters?
Obviously, there's more to this article, but I pulled out every argument why Latinos would suddenly turn Red despite overt hostility toward them from the GOP, and as anyone can see, there's nothing there. "Some website is glitchy, and that's worse than Republicans overtly hating Latinos!"
Yeah, thanks, National Journal, for today's heaping pile of stupid!
