You've got to give credit to the right-wing hate machine. They always know how to incite their base.
Since, well, forever, characters like Bryan Fischer, Gordon "Dr. Chaps" Klingenschmitt, Rafael Cruz, and Matt Barber have been bashing the LGBT community. But they've figured out that they're not winning enough popularity contests, or elections, by gay-bashing.
So now they're out looking for other targets. The right wing cannot keep its power if it doesn't find some group to demonize to their mouthbreathers to fire them up. The National Organization for Marriage is in the process of abandoning their namesake cause, fighting same-sex marriage, because they want a target that's easier to demean and demonize without blowback: transgender people. So now they're bullying transgender children for daring to want to go to the bathroom of their gender in peace.
But a lot of the right-wingers are turning to an old classic target of their hate rhetoric, atheists. Yep. Don't you know, those eeeeeeeevil, godless heathen secular humanists are growing bolder and poisoning America! Or as Rafael Cruz said earlier this month, our godless atheism "leads us to sexual immorality, leads us to sexual abuse, leads us to perversion and, of course, no hope. No hope!"
Hey, I resemble that remark...
Well, yeah, because I'm an atheist.
And I'm wondering why we should take the demonization from the right wing lying down.
Rafael Cruz, head of Purifying Fire Ministries, or as Sen. Ted Cruz calls him, "Dad", said this about atheists, courtesy of Raw Story.
Rafael Cruz: Atheism leads to child molestation and perversity
Well, I take issue with those remarks. I thought we were supposed to eat babies, with a light wine sauce, not molest them.
Matt Barber's also jumped into the atheist/secularist bashing game, claiming that those demonic secularists are about to impose godless tyranny upon them.
I know. How dare we insist that the ideals of the Founding Fathers, written into law in the First Amendment to the Constitution, be upheld, and that we insist that their collection of fairy tales not be given endorsement by the state, in preference to other collections of fairy tales, or our atheist lack of collection of fairy tales. Keep the government neutral with regards to religion, to keep the peace in this country? What chutzpah!
Yep. You've got to give them credit. When other targets aren't available to them, you can always count on the religious fanatics to demonize atheists.
Thank you. And since I am the Apostle of the great George Carlin, I part with this.
