The Rev. Frank Schaefer faces a church trial Monday because he performed his son's gay wedding in 2006.
"I actually brought it up to my superior at the time. And I told him, "Look, I can do no other. I have to do this. I have to follow my heart, you know?'" the Rev. Frank Schaefer said.
At the time, gay marriage had been legal in Massachusetts for two years, but it is not legal in Pennsylvania or sanctioned by the United Methodist Church, which prohibits ministers from performing any same-sex unions or marriages. [...]
