I want to talk about one of my pet peeves. That is, people misusing words, even to the point of trivializing serious crimes because they keep on trying to use a horrible word in a "positive way".
For example...
We've had plenty of those scandals about female teachers having sex with their students. And every time you always hear a comment from some guy who says something to the effect of: "Damn, that boy sure were lucky.... I would love to get raped by a hot teacher!"
My reaction every time: "Um...that word means an non-consensual act. In order to be raped, you wouldn't have enjoyed anything about the experience. It cannot be rape if you're actually willing."
What those guys really mean when they say they would love to get raped:
"Gee Whiz, I would love to have sex with a sexually attractive woman who is a dominatrix. espeically one who always plays as a teacher who teaches the naive student all about sex."
or-- "I love surprise sex... I wouldn't mind if some random, strange woman jumped me in an alleyway and had her way with me. But it would be only okay if she yelled 'surprise sex!' beforehand."
or even this-- "I was such a nervous wreck when I was exploring sexuality for the first time as a young boy. Dunno, but I kind of like the idea of some experienced woman showing me the ropes and teaching me how to be good at sex so that I didn't scare off any future girlfriends. I wish I had something like that back then."
By misusing that word, you pretty much assume that guys cannot have a non-consensual experience. But yet you fail to take into account that beauty can be highly subjective. I've known people who thought that Megan Fox were butt-ugly, while others find her to be highly attractive.
So.... that "hot teacher" might actually be a "old hag" in the eyes of say, a 12-year-old boy. Surely, at that age they would still find a 25-year-old to be "old" in relative to their young age. but to a older guy, of course that woman would be "hot"!
Imagine having a 90-year-old woman aggressively come on to you when you're a 29-year-old. Would you feel aroused... or just plain grossed out?
Yet, you're trivializing how a young boy might feel when he's being hit on by a woman who's old enough to be his mother, or even a grandmother.... by wondering why he wasn't happy with what happened to him.
So please think before you misuse a word like that, please. Maybe next time say something like: "Dude, I know what she did was wrong. but I can't help but wonder why she couldn't hook up with somebody like me instead. I love role-playing those forbidden student-teacher relationships... if you know what I mean. ;)"
This way, you're not trivializing the experiences of any boy who might had experienced a highly non-consensual situation. You're simply high-lighting the fact those female teachers were totally f-ked up for going after young boys in their care when there was plenty of willing adult men out there for them.
So yeah, that's my pet peeve. What's the one word you see being misused all the time, and wish they wouldn't keep on using it that way?
