The Witness was written by favored author Nora Roberts in 2012 and then released by Brilliance Audio in audiobook format. Excellent narration is by Julia Whelan. This a-book is rated Mature and is suitable for late Teens through Adults because of the language, sexual situations, and violence. Julia's narration hits all the characters' voices and mannerisms spot on. The teenage carelessness, the sinister Russian Mobsters, and the comforting matter-of-fact G men and women are exceptionally well done.
This is an engaging mystery thriller with over 16 hours of riveting listening. Perfect for those long commutes.

The Storyline
Elizabeth Fitch is just 16 years old when the story begins. She'd like to join the FBI one day, solving computer fraud cybercrimes. And she has an eidetic memory.
Dr. Susan L. Fitch is her mother, who is overly fastidious and overbearing. Elizabeth doesn't know her father, he's just a biological sperm donor--no doubt selected for his acceptable qualities. Her mother expects Elizabeth to become A Better Her, more talented and more educated, to the exclusion of a normal teenage life. In short, Elizabeth has been programmed to be a genius. That's why she's attending Harvard.
Elizabeth suddenly comes to life after her first McDonald's meal filled with fat and salt, something her mother would never allow, of course. After this turning point for Elizabeth, she will slowly begin to blossom as an independent young lady. She'll change up her hairstyle and color, her makeup, and her clothes. And in the process of turning into the new Liz, she also becomes dangerously involved in a new predicament.
The previously sheltered Liz and new-found friend Julie go clubbing in Chicago at Warehouse 12 and meet two charming gentlemen who find them beautiful and sexy, and in Liz's case, brainy. They agree to leave with one of the men to continue the scene. But the man is connected to the Russian Mob. And when Julie is murdered, Liz becomes a witness and a liability. Liz's path from normalcy begins. Liz journeys farther away from her mother's strict agenda and more into her new danger-filled life.
Being on her own might be a curse or a blessing, but now the foundation for her life that was meticulously laid out by her mother might just be what keeps her alive.
