Happy Together at Walmart
Here's what got me to asking this question:
This morning on the news portion of the programming on NPR, a great fuss was made about all the happy shopping on Thanksgiving and continuing today, Black Friday. A Walmart spokesperson was interviewed who spun a tale about happy shoppers and happy associates, enjoying their time at Walmart on Thanksgiving Day. Not one word from the NPR "reporter" to question the happy-associate part of Walmart's spin. It may as well have been free advertising. Also, not one word about the strikes and protests now in progress was offered as an indication to the public (p=public in NPR) that all might not be so rosy at Walmarts across the nation this morning.
Now, perhaps the strikes and protests were covered later in the broadcast...I'm on my way to work, so couldn't listen to all of the news. But at any rate, the happy-associates-working-Thanksgiving-Day story simply does not pass the smell test and should have been challenged immediately with questions about the strikes and protest now in progress:
Happiness is Getting Arrested at Walmart
United we stand, divided we fall
For every dime they give us, a battle must be fought
So workin' people use your power, the key to liberty
Don't support that rich man's style of luxury.
And there ain't no way they can ever keep us down.
Solidarity,
and stay safe out there on picket duty!
