I have been going to the same drug store for years. It"s nice calling the people who work there by their first name. One young lady seems to go out of her way to help an old man like me.I like her and that's why as I was walking to my car,I saw her outside on her break smoking. I saw her face prematurely aging. I imagined her with Breast Cancer.A tube running out of her nose feeding her oxygen because she can"t breathe.
I am so sad for her.
When I was her age, everyone smoked,at least it seemed that way. I grew up in a house full of smoke and coughing. It cured me from ever wanting to start. My doctor explained 2nd hand smoke to me so I guess I WAS a smoker.
In 2013,I am blown away that any member of the young generation smokes. According to the Campaign for Tobacco free kids,440,000 people die each year from smoking. 50,000 die
from 2nd hand smoke.Smoking kills more people than alcohol, aids, car accidents, illegal
drugs, murders, and suicides COMBINED.If you smoke, you loose 13 or 14 years of your life.
I was hoping THIS generation would learn from us. The percentage of people who smoke has dropped. It still is the 2nd leading cause of death in America. Heart disease
kills 700,000 of us each year,
Maybe I have to accept the fact some people smoke, eat bad food, don"t exercise by
choice. To them I would say, Tobacco kills you slowly. Go under water and try to breathe. Emphysema is a horrible way to die. I have been at the bedside of two family
members right before they died. I loved them both. My God were they suffering!A heart
attack most of the time takes you quickly.
So yes, this is an observation from someone who has seen people die from smoking.
Life is free choice. If you smoke, good luck!,,,,,,,,you will need it.
