Yesterday as was researching for the rec listed diary Hey kos, Afghanistan 2014 Promise? I was sickened to revisit all the waste that has gone on in Iraq and Afghanistan for over a decade.
Destroy the weapons, but I mean why not leave the damn furniture and appliances for them to use if wanted ?
US trashes gear in Afghanistan instead of donating it
Okay. Calm down, divineorder. This diary is about the hungry in THIS country and what we can DO.
I am on a hippy email mailing list that gives daily info and action and this morning was one that, as we enjoy the holiday season, hope many kossacks can also support:
[Ufpj-leg-action] Coalition on Human Needs -Two Actions to Support Food Stamps
Please read this important message from our friends at The Food Research and Action Center (FRAC):
Take Two Actions to Support SNAP
Participate in two advocacy actions this week to voice your support of SNAP as Farm Bill negotiations resume:
1) Participate in a nationwide Call-In Day on Wednesday, Dec. 4; and
2) Send “Who Goes Hungry?” cards and messages to Members of Congress and the White House. Go to whogoeshungry.org for holiday cards and social media messages.
SNAP Nationwide Call-In Day, Wednesday, Dec. 4:
Join advocates across the country for a nationwide call-in day to support and protect SNAP as Congress debates proposals to weaken this vital program.
1) Call toll-free to 1-888-398-8702*
2) A pre-recorded message will ask you to enter your zip code. Press 1 to be connected to your Representative.
3) Let your Representative know you are calling about the Farm Bill and deliver this important message:
Message: As a constituent, I urge you to support and protect SNAP in any Farm Bill or other legislative vehicle. Oppose SNAP cuts.
4) Call back to repeat the process for your two senators - press “2” to be connected to your first senator and “3” to be connected to the other.
*Thanks to our friends at Feeding America for providing the toll-free number.
Send a Who Goes Hungry? Holiday Card
Our Thanksgiving and Hanukkah cards blanketed the Hill last week, largely due to your help in getting the word out and urging others to ask: “Who goes hungry?” Thank you. And with your continued support, we can keep up the drumbeat. The Who Goes Hungry website now has holiday cards that you can send this week and next.
1) Send a holiday card to Congress and the White House.
2) Share the holiday card and promote the “Who Goes Hungry” campaign via email, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and any other social media channel you use. Click here for sample social media messages.

Yes, let's send those cards and letters for the hungry please!
With election season around the corner, lets raise the banner to get needs met .....
#WhoGoesHungry?
Americans in need are facing a tougher struggle with hunger this holiday season. Cuts to SNAP made on November 1st mean tighter budgets for food.
The truth is, cutting SNAP means many people go hungry. And that harms the health and wellbeing of seniors, veterans, children, and families.
Make Members of Congress answer: Who should go hungry?
Send a holiday card today asking Congress and the President to not let anyone else go hungry this holiday season.
All in ?
