The figure skater Brian Boitano, one of the best IMHO was named to the 2014 US delegation to the Winter Olympic games in Sochi Russia.
Brian Boitano the 1988 Olympic figure skating gold medalist who was named this week to the US delegation to the 2014 Sochi Games, Thursday announced that he is gay.
Saying that “being gay is just one part of who I am,” Boitano said in a statement: “First and foremost I am an American athlete and I am proud to live in a country that encourages diversity, openness and tolerance.”
Boitano was among the official US delegation to the Games named on Tuesday by President Barack Obama, which also includes tennis legend Billie Jean King, who is gay.

Boitano and King will attend the opening ceremony. Cahow, a two-time medalist in women's hockey, will attend the closing ceremony with Olympic speed skating champions Bonnie Blair and Eric Heiden.
"I have been fortunate to represent the United States of America in three different Olympics, and now I am honored to be part of the presidential delegation to the Olympics in Sochi," Boitano, who is in Europe, said in his statement. "It has been my experience from competing around the world and in Russia that Olympic athletes can come together in friendship, peace and mutual respect regardless of their individual country's practices."
LGBT athletes representing the United States in the 2014 Winter Olympics should send a clear message to Putin that homophobia and bigotry will not be tolerated.
