Sometimes it’s good to get off the freeway and explore some of the lesser travelled backgrounds. On one recent expedition away from freeway traffic, travelling on a road that I had never driven, I spotted a sign saying “Old Locomotive.” Flipping a u-turn (there wasn’t any traffic) and ignoring the voice from the GPS, I turned down the narrow lane leading downhill to the Columbia River and the little town of Wishram, Washington.
