Wow, while I was out not watching Duck Dynasty an entire new TV Nontroversy has arisen over a segment of Melissa Harris-Perry's weekend show where she showed a picture of the Romney Family which now includes adopted Grand-Baby Keiran who is an African-American.
The segment was intended to be light-hearted, but brother oh brother has it got the blood the Right-Wing Boiling, because y'know, how dare anyone joke that the picture shows about as much diversity As the Republican Party or say "one of these things is not like the other".
Cue the Whambulance and the GOP Outrage Police because clearly someone needs to think of the Kids!
So in other reactions you have Fox Paid Pocket Liberal Alan Colmes who defended Harris-Perry saying she had nothing to apologize for, while ex-MSNBC Host Keither Olbermann wonders if they are any "adults left in charge" over there.
Frankly, there are at least a half-dozen things that Keith himself was involved in during his MSNBC show that I found far more vicious and tasteless, like the long segment he did wiwth Michael Musto about how Suri Cruise wasn't really a baby, she was a pillow that Katie Holmes was using to pretend to be pregnant and perpetuate the fiction that Tom Cruise isn't gay. Or the segment on his show with Alison Stewart and Paul F. Thompkins that argued that Suri was a mirage.
STEWART: As promised, Paul F. Tompkins, comedian and contributor to VH1‘s “Best Week Ever,” joins me to talk about the Hollywood baby shrouded in mystery.
Paul, simple question: Do you know if anyone has seen this child of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes?
PAUL F. TOMPKINS, COMEDIAN: Well, Alison, there‘s no actual confirmation of anyone seeing the baby. I mean, a lot of people talk a big game and those people have been debunked as the spinners of urban legends. A lot of people say they sort of see Suri out of the corner of their eye, but when they turn to look she‘s gone. And of course.
STEWART: The tooth fairy was like that when I was a kid.
TOMPKINS: Absolutely. But you did get that money didn‘t you?
STEWART: Yeah, I did. I got my quarter.
So, it's not like he has clean hands on this kind of thing and there's only
one way that any of that gets funny - if Tom Cruise is truly gay and Suri Cruise doesn't exist -
Except That SHE DOES, and I've never heard Olbermann apologize for pretending she didn't, the way that Melissa has already
apologized unequivocally for her guests comments about Keiran.
Clearly, like Keith, Sarah Palin has an axe to grind with MSNBC, and this latest thing has her bringing out the long knives of pandering for the love of the kids. http://www.inquisitr.com/...
The hypocritical leftist lamestream media should be shamed by every caring, child-loving American. It has once again reached a new low. See the article linked below. One just can’t win in their petty little games. Good thing most Americans don’t play those little games! It’s a beautiful thing the Romney family has done by embracing ‘the spirit of adoption.’ What on earth is more beautiful? Shame on MSNBC for mocking this…
Palin continued:
Leftist media hounds are not expressing an opinion with this attack; they are expressing a prejudice that would never be accepted if it came from anyone else but the lib media. You really need a conscience, yellow journalists. May your 2014 New Year’s Resolution be to find one.Thank you,
It is something to see how amazingly pro-interacial adoption the GOP has become. Truly, it is something how progressive they are when they're not saying the President is a secret illegal alien who was really born in Kenya and somehow smuggled 15,000 miles into Waikiki as an infant in a carry-on bag undetected by an 18 year-old from Kansas, all so he could grow up and install Death Panels to get back at all the White People who never enslaved him or anyone in his family. And it's not like we had someone, not too long ago, talking about
how most people in the Tea Party would Vomit at the sight of Bill DeBlasio and his Family.
People with conventional views must repress a gag reflex when considering the mayor-elect of New York — a white man married to a black woman and with two biracial children. (Should I mention that Bill de Blasio’s wife, Chirlane McCray, used to be a lesbian?)
I'm sure that Sarah Palin lept up to the defense of that Democrat to argue for the right to have a open and diverse family didn't she?
Right?
Beuller?
Beuller?
But it's not like this is the first time that Sarah Palin has taken it to Harris-Perry when she dared to say children were not "the Property" of their parents?
For some reason, Harris-Perry, who is clearly smart and highly intelligent as a professor, has become a lightening-rod for the Right. She's become as much a knee-jerk example of rabid leftism as Saul Alinski and George Soros. They see her as a threat as great as Obama himself, apparently because - She. Knows. Stuff.
Even to Don Lemon who is apparently still butt-hurt over the repeated spankings he received as a result of his justifying Bill O'Reilly's rationalization of the profiling of young black men based on their attire while ignoring who they are as indiviual people, as he decided to leap from the MHP segment to bash the entire Network
[MSNBC is] a bunch of people on the left who all agree with each other …there’s no diversity of opinion … and saying mean, smug things … about people who disagree with them…They were using a baby to bring attention to diversity.”
Yeah, and that's what they do all day, just say mean things and buck each other up with no one else who disagrees with them - since we all know
shouting and arguing incoherently makes such great enlightening NEWS - like say former Republican Congressmen like Joe Scarborough, or former RNC Chair Michael Steele, or former GOP Operatives like Nicole Wallace and Steve Schmidt who worked for John McCain's Presidential Run or Black/Gay former Rick Santorum adviser Robert Traynham.
I would call having Al Sharpton (Preacher and Former Democratic Candidate for President) pretty much a wash with Huckabee (Former Pastor and Republican Candidate for President), but tell me, how many former Democratic Elected Officials have their own shows on Fox for 4 hours everyday like Scarborough? How many former DNC Chairs do they have on staff like Steele? How many gay/black Democratic Operatives are their go-to people for contrast commentary like Traynham?
Zero. That's how many. They got Colmes, but he's not a politician or a professional political operative. He's a pundit and he's never had His OWN SHOW on Fox News!, not without having Hannity as his minder.
For that matter how many mix-raced individuals, like Harris-Perry and Karen Finney, have their own shows on Fox? How many like Rachel Maddow do they have on air who is openly Gay? Fox isn't even in the same Quantum Dimension of diversity as MSNBC.
The idea that you could turn the joke around and say that Romney Family's diversity Looks Just Like the Diversity in the Democratic Party is just ridiculous. Fox News wouldn't do that segment, because it makes no sense. MHP was making the joke about the Romney's being so-so Lilly White - which they are - and if you turned it around and Fox did it - it would be about the baby being black just as it was Bill DeBlasio and his family.
One could argue the segment was a bit dumbass, but it's not like they were attacking the baby - knowing MHP's show - I'm betting most of the people making various comments on the program - Were Black. Why exactly would they attack the child, who had nothing to do with it all?
There is no balance or equivalency here. We've just spent 2 1/2 weeks on Duck Dynasty, and it's not like that guy was telling a joke when he said black people were happier before the Great Society and Civil Rights Act. There's No Funny There. You can't make the argument that Sarah Palin did, that people upset with Phil were "upset with the Gospel", because Phil didn't quote the Gospel and nothing in the Bible says - "Jim Crow was Just Alright with Jesus!".
This isn't about Outrage, it's about "Gotcha!."
It's about you make one of our guys look bad, we'll find one of yours to look bad. It's Revenge, pure and simple Pay Back for all the GOP Congress-people from Michelle Bachmann to Steve King who shot their mouths off saying something nitwitish, time and time again. People on news programs are now part of the political football game. This team scores a goal, that one gets a touchback with a flag on the play. We embarras one of yours, you embarras one of ours.
it's not about truth, it's not about the reality in people's lives. Like for example, maybe we should be thinking about better ways to help heal black families and reduce the conditions that break them up and take their parents away, rather than simply nodding and smiling when another rich white family shows up to "rescue" their babies and whisk them away.
I'm just saying, maybe this should be the beginning of the discussion on children, parenting and race, not the end.

7:00 PM PT: Here's are the segments just prior to the Romney bit which actually connects Duck Dynasty, the inter-racial Cheerios commercial, Paula Deen and Steve King's Cantaloupe Calves all together. I was wrong, most of the people at the table were not Black, beside Melissa one was White, one was Arab, one was Jewish and one other was Black - so that's pretty diverse unless you don't think they reached the Asshole Republican Bigot Quota.
There's nothing "Post" about our Racial Angst. http://www.msnbc.com/...
