Great news on New Year's Eve, from AP:
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A federal judge has struck down a Florida law requiring applicants for welfare benefits to undergo mandatory drug testing, ruling it was unconstitutional and shouldn't be enforced.
U.S. District Judge Mary Scriven's 30-page order issued Tuesday made permanent an earlier, temporary ban.
...
Opponents of the law had argued it was an unconstitutional search and seizure. The judge agreed, writing that there was no pervasive drug problem among applicants for the welfare program known as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.

One of the more reprehensible laws now in history's dustbin. The fact that Governor Rick "Lizard Person" Scott supported it makes it all the sweeter that it has been struck down. Not to mention the hypocrisy of Florida Goposaur Rep. Trey Radel, who was recently busted trying to buy cocaine, and yet publicly backed this discriminatory legislation.
Rick Scott simply must be defeated next year - if I lived in Florida, Crist would certainly have my vote. Wherever you live, you can support Charlie Crist for governor here: http://www.charliecrist.com
Happy New Year to all! :)
