It has been reported that 2.1 million people have enrolled in the Affordable Care Act. And while the media have been quick to point out that this number is below expectations, we should keep our focus on the fact that this number is huge. The number of 2.1 million is more than the total population of North Dakota (672,591), Alaska (710,231), and Wyoming (563,626) combined.
There are fifteen states with a lower population than the number of people who have enrolled in the ACA so far. These states are: Wyoming, Vermont, North Dakota, Alaska, South Dakota, Delaware, Montana, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Maine, Hawaii, Idaho, West Virginia, Nebraska, and New Mexico.

And the number of states on this list will grow as more and more people sign up for coverage under the ACA.
These numbers demonstrate that there is a real need in this country for affordable health care.
We must not let the media and the public buy into the Republican spin that the ACA is not succeeding due to some of the bumps in the road that have occurred. It is up to each of us who support the ACA to point out its benefits (and the large number of enrollments) to everyone that we talk to. Because of the ACA, a lot of people, including those with pre-existing conditions, now have access to affordable health care, which is a good thing for this country.
We can't allow the Republican spin machine to succeed in convincing the American people that the ACA is a failure which needs to be replaced. The health and lives of too many people are at stake.
