When I hear homophobic rants its evident that the fear and loathing stems from; "there but for the grace of god go I" and that in allowing others to be free I will myself become enslaved by my own hatred.

When I hear we are being punished by god for the sins of others, all I hear is that the only justification for belief stems from the fear of retribution for their own sins.

When I hear bemoaning about taxes and estate taxes from those that are little concerned by either, this seems to be driven by the terror of retribution by those richer than they.

When I hear about the evils of big government its seems to come from the suspicion of those that they might elect, rather than those they oppose.

When I hear "they hate us for our freedom", it's usually from those that have no concept of what has been done in "freedoms" name. When I hear it from the powerful, it's merely an abdication of responsibility.

When I hear that evolution and climate change somehow threatens their very souls, it stems from more of a lack of curiosity, than deliberation.

When I hear their leaders play with their fears, I begin to understand not only the long road ahead, but I also the long road we have traveled, those voices are starting to sound more and more absurd. In the short term they may be deafening; but in the long term they have no future.

So listen to the voices of the future, and when I listen to the next generations it gives me hope. The world turns slowly, listen to its heartbeat.

Just a thought for a Sunday morning

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

Cheney and company must have thought long and hard to come up with this little gem.  Our Iraqi/Afghanistani invadees understand our lifestyle enough to judge us on it?  To hate us for it?  Nonsense.

This was a war slogan in search of a cause.  Something flown atop the politicians' speeches to show why we were righteous victims and deserved to attack others in their homelands and kill them.

This meme will always turn my stomach.

Nobody doesn't wish he had more education.

growing out of the anti-Communism of the McCarthy era and the John Birch Society.  It should be no surprise these Nixon era retreads (remember Nixon was Tailgunner Joe's right hand man in persecuting various "liberals" and "pinkos" so even Lucille Ball had to prove she was no pinko) should recycle JBS rhetoric for a new generation

2 wars or no wars since WWII, according to winger worldview.  They point out that Korea, VN, and the various ME adventures and Central American adventures were not "wars" but were "police actions" (so why not send cops?) or "advisory support" or other euphemisms.  The 58K KIA in VN then were not really war dead but were action dead by this logic.

The fallback is to argue there have been 2 wars with various manifestations and such.  The first was the Cold War (which we screwed up by making nice with China and then allowing the USSR to crumble, leaving us with no credible enemies) and now the GWOT (which is perennial with no end because there is no identifiable enemy)

and I think he is the one who claimed to have God personally direct him to impeach Obama or maybe that was Gohmert.  Am I just getting old or are the crazies becoming more numerous and powerful?

On homophobia, I am in the midst of "Buffet Baptist" who choose to try to enforce the "bans" in the Bible but ignore other biblical injunctions such as a brother impregnating the wife of a sterile sibling or a brother taking as a second or third wife, the widow of his sibling.

For that matter, they don't even subscribe to the concept of gleaning, whereby landowners left certain margins and other borders unwinnowed so the indigent could gather this for themselves.  I point out that they no longer do this (And one more mention of Lottie Moon or Shepherd's Purse and I will scream) but instead of using tithes in the local community, send them overseas to support missionaries so in many cases, locals get Bibles instead of food or seed or clean water or medicines.  I point out that the purpose of their charity is conversion which is a perversion of the original biblical concept of charity.  I also point out that charity should begin at home and should even be nonsectarian (I note many weekend "breakfasts" for local indigent kids also contain a heavy dose of denominational indoctrination.)

And I am sad to say that I have become something that I never did want to be. I am tired.

I had so much more energy when I was young and the hope that my generation would overcome so much more. Since I grew up in poverty I though my modest rise in economic status meant something good about the methods of economy used in the world. Now, I see how such inequality of wealth has overpowered democracy and freedom.

So listen to the voices of the future, and when I listen to the next generations it gives me hope. The world turns slowly, listen to its heartbeat.
And when I see my children, I feel they will be able to do so much more than me. Thank you for reminding me of that.

This better be good. Because it is not going away.

I became as exhausted by all the republicons' endless hammering on BS as I have ever been since Reagan and the election of 2000. Then, last Wednesday, I went to Albany NY to participate in the largest anti hydrofracking rally NYS has seen to date. And the anti SAFE laws protesters had their smallest crowd ever. It brought me back to life, so to speak. We need to remember that change comes in slow, sometimes almost invisible, increments.  As long as one Progressive is still out there fighting against them, and we fight with them, we have not lost.  Like you said, "in the long term they have no future."

... I want to warn those folks we're "helping" that they can't hear the second part of that sentence over the roar of the bombs and the jets which is, "... even if we have to kill you to do it."
