The most fundamental piece of the 50 State Strategy, and any successful grassroots movement, is the organization of the individual precinct. As daunting as it may seem to take on a town, county or state, our local precincts are small enough that campaigns could be run for almost no money, if elections were held on that level. Just about anyone with a working knowledge of politics should be able to go out into their neighborhood and improve the prospects of the Democratic Party and progressive candidates to the few hundred homes around them. That's the idea at least.
But when I really think about, it's hard to explain just how to perform this seemingly simple task. How does one go about organizing a precinct? How do different types of neighborhoods differ in terms of strategy for organizing? Where can one get help? How do we get people to go out and get this important task done?
I sure don't know. But I'm hoping some people on this site do, and I think it would be useful for anyone to share their knowledge, advice, tips and experiences in trying to organize precincts themselves.
