Practically everyone seems to have heard about the verdict awarding millions to a woman who sued after spilling McDonald's coffee on herself. Many believe that this is the height of frivolous lawsuits--who could possibly not know that coffee is hot?
Last October, The New York Times posted a video recapping the lawsuit and how the media distorted what happened to depict the victim as a greedy villain. If you're like me, you missed this video when it was originally posted, so here it is again. (h/t Upworthy for reposting)

Very much like urban legends, it is a very compelling story. Once everybody decides what is true about something and the media has been an echo chamber for it, then how do you deal with the fact that they might be wrong?
Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with kossacks who are caring and supportive of one another. So bring your stories, jokes, photos, funny pics, music, and interesting videos, as well as links—including quotations—to diaries, news stories, and books that you think this community would appreciate.
Readers may notice that most who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but newcomers should not feel excluded. We welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.
