After doing 2 Top Comment diaries on dismal subjects, I promised you something better this time. I hope I deliver on that promise.
Sometimes things that come in your email inbox are annoying (like fundraising appeals from groups like the DLC that won't remove you from their mailing list no matter what you do), infuriating (lying, RW chain email that your best friends forward to you to "inform" you), or irritating (spam - yuck). At other times it's simply so astounding that you must learn more:
Now that's one fine example of
3D Street art. It's a 2 dimensional art work that fools the eye into thinking that it's 3 dimensional when viewed at the proper angle. I really does look like that horse and rider are emerging from underground.
The fact is that only the woman "rider" is 3D - a real person who posed herself with the 2 dimensional sidewalk art.
More art (with and without "posers") below.

3D Street art is an optical illusion.
When it comes to admiring 3D street art, it's often a matter of perspective -- look at a street artist's design from one angle and it appears flat and distorted, but from another the illustration comes alive.
The process is called anamorphosis, and requires the viewer to stand at a certain vantage point in order to view the three-dimensional image. The optical illusions have been popping up around the world from London and Spain to New York and Denver.
This art is created on totally flat surfaces (including the sides of buildings) with some looking like fractures or craters in the surface.
Here's a video showing one of the best artists, Nikolaj Arndt, creating one small piece using a combination of paint and chalk which is sprayed with something to ensure it doesn't wash off:
More here which starts with a slide show of 3D Street Art and then shows one of the pieces being created:

And even more:
From someone who can't draw a straight line, my hat is off to all those amazing artists.
I hope you enjoyed the eye candy.
