Next week on Wednesday at 7 PM Drinking Liberally Los Angeles Westside is moving to Brennan's Pub in Marina del Rey. This by itself is big. I have been going to this Drinking Liberally for years and this is the first time we change the venue.
I am also involved in the Marianne Williamson campaign for the CA-33 US Congress district. The race has heated up since Rep. Henry Waxman announced his retirement.
Marianne is very liberal (I don't think she drinks though) and in my opinion she will strike a chord with the usual suspects and with those who come occasionally and those who want to check out this fun event and discuss politics for the first time.
I recommend you check out her campaign website if you are curious. Her big issue is getting money out of politics and I find myself on the same page accross a spectrum of issues; single payer, reducing the prison population, climate change, mass surveillance, education, military spending, reinstating Glass-Steagall, etc.
The thing about Marianne is that she not only wants to go in the same direction as most Kossacks and even most California Democrats, she is also very passionate, very eloquent and a great leader.
Yes, she is more known for her spiritual teachings and books to the degree that she has over 400,000 "likes" in her Facebook page. Check her out in these videos.
I first diaried about Marianne when I decided to support her Sister Giant campaign to get more women involved in politics (another important issue) but when she threw her hat in the ring about 6 months ago I decided to get involved. Marianne Williamson in DC can help change the system. I don't want more wonkish politicians in DC I want people who can change our dysfunctional system. Marianne can make a difference and that is why I support her.
I will be at Brennan's early (happy hour ends at 7PM) and some of her people will be there early too. Come and let's have a great time and meet someone who can change things.
So I offer you one more video that explains why she decided to run before Henry Waxman announced his retirement;
"As long as Wall Street owns America, the American people will not"
Marianne Williamson
And also for your amusement, here I am with Marianne when we went to see Elizabeth Warren when she came to Los Angeles. I like Marianne for US Congress and Elizabeth you know where.
