Shenna Bellows acknowledges her grandfather, Bill Bellows, while announcing her campaign to challenge Sen. Susan Collins at Forage Market in Lewiston on Wednesday. Standing behind the World War II veteran is Shenna Bellows' husband Brandon Baldwin.
Received this e-mail from Sheena Bellows (D. ME) U.S. Senate campaign yesterday:
Big news: Today, environmentalists across Maine endorsed Shenna's campaign for US Senate.

In an open letter, they wrote, "We believe climate change is one of the most serious threats we face as a state, a nation and a planet... We need leaders in Washington, like Shenna Bellows, who understand the magnitude of the threat we face and have the courage and vision to advance positive change."

Sen. Susan Collins voted with corporate polluters and other Republican senators for the Keystone XL pipeline, against clean energy tax incentives, and against water protections.

Endorse Shenna Bellows today -- the environmental candidate for U.S. Senate.
Together, we can make a difference.  Let's stand up for our environment.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

     Tipped and Rec,d.  Thanks.

  •  Bellows seems to have liberals (0+ / 0-)

and the left sewn up. Does she have a game plan for how to win independents and moderate Republicans?

Unfortunately, Susan Collins, like so many other alleged "moderate" Republicans, has done a great job creating the illusion that she is, in fact, moderate. Yet, time after time, she votes with the Republican obstructionists on...pretty much everything.

Is there a way for Shenna to expose to independents and truly moderate Republicans that Collins is no moderate?

Bellows' outreach to libertarians and other independents.

More generally, Bellows has a history of reaching out beyond registered Democrats, such as when she co-chaired the successful Maine voter referendum for marriage equality in 2012 -- which was a reversal of an anti-marriage equality vote only three years before, showing Maine voters' ability to change their minds (and increase their turn-out).

Surveillance is a key issue that cuts across partisan lines in Maine. As Bellows said in an MSNBC interview(for a story about Rand Paul!):

“Privacy is a winning issue in 2014 because there’s a really interesting coalition of progressives and libertarians across Maine and across the country interested in restoring our constitutional freedoms,” Bellows told msnbc in a phone interview. “I think privacy is incredibly important to young people who understand technology and understand that our laws have not kept pace with technology.”
Each new disclosure based on Snowden evidence spotlights Collins failure to reflect Maine values on privacy, as Collins fails to use her seat on the Senate Intelligence Committee to protect those values.

      Even before the Snowden disclosures:

The use of UAVs by police or drones was a hot-button issue for the [Maine] Legislature in 2013 and a bill that would have required police to obtain a warrant before deploying a drone, except in for emergency purposes, was passed but then vetoed by LePage.
      ...
Support for the bill came from both liberal and conservative lawmakers
...as reported in the local Bangor Daily News here.
