Feeling particularly feisty given all the recent hoopla I am going to virtually spam the place by doing an unprecedented second diary in two days. Now my diaries aren't very good nor do they garner much attention, but none the less this is a place where one may speak their peace for better or for worse.

I've been around over 6 years now and lurked the better part of a year prior to actually jumping in and though that may not be old school its long enough to know the place pretty well. If there is one thing this site prides itself upon more than anything else, its being 'reality based'. I take that to mean that we are willing as a community to accept the reality we truly face regardless of how much we may not like it.

My personal view of reality and I assure you I don't like it...

Currently there is a lot of discussion over the ideas of conspiracy and theories about our current political/economic situation. Now I want to state right off the bat that I do not believe there is a conspiracy. Now that I have made that clear let me unclarify it by stating I don't think it matters anyway.

An unassociated group all acting to achieve the same or very similar goals will be indistinguishable from an actual conspiracy and will still need to be treated as one.

I love analogies...

When piranhas eat a whole cow in minutes they do not have any prearranged agreement to all attack what comes in the water. In fact should one piranha make a mistake and get bit it will be eaten as well. None the less you will still have to treat the piranhas as a single mass when dealing with them.

That is what we face, a world of financial piranhas all trying to eat the value of the worlds labor, though also perfectly willing to eat each other should one slip.  Is it a conspiracy? No! Do they meet in some 'star chamber' to discuss their wicked plans? No. Are they just as much a threat to our society? Yes. Do they still need to be dealt with as a whole as if they are a conspiracy? Yes!

Now I am not going to go too far into it because if by now you can't see our government is fundamentally bought and paid for, nothing I can say will make you believe otherwise. Where many of us may disagree is in if its some big conspiracy.

I say put that aside because it really doesn't matter...

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

After all, we have "The Invisible Hand", which supposedly optimizes things - but seems to have left more than a few people out.

I will also observe that a truly "free market" would be bad enough for the common good, but the situation is worse; the game as it played in this country is broken, it is corrupt.  One example is the IPO (initial public offering), which no one has access to, other than the brokerage house insiders and the top brass of the company.   This is just one example of the situation in our society, where the few at the top have all of the opportunity, while those that the bottom have almost none.  Not nearly enough people prosper from the richest economy on earth.  Many are barely hanging on. We need more channels of opportunity, many more high-bandwidth channels for development and success.

gilded age historians, the Dunning school, all unblushingly racist, just now being corrected by Eric Foner et. al. Then look at the incompetent quality of recent official history that accepts Time magazine as the factual record. The CT label concedes that the official story does not hold up, but argues for its temporary infallibility, the Warren Report as paradigm, only meant to last a few generations to protect the status quo, then get radically revised after it doesn't matter. The official story presents incompetent crime scene analysis. Lawyers, not historians, have the expertise and subject their opinions to critiism. Mark Lane, Jim Garrison. Historians brook no departure from the hearsay official story over which they have no special competence, and stigmatize the lawyers as illigitimate. This goes to straight defamation, alleging tin foil hat mental illness. Same as calling Dr. King a communist, or Huey Long a dictator. How the status quo protects itself.  The republic was founded and perpetuated by people who pledged their lives, fortunes and sacred honor. The CT card protects antirepublican usurpers from adverse consequences. The greatest beneficiary of this waiver of prosecution has been the Supreme Court which slowly assumed dictatorial control just as Jefferson predicted it would after Marbury.

there are those who mentally shy away from anything called a conspiracy, for whatever reason.  Sometimes semantics can get in the way, turning potential allies into adversaries.

Just seeing if maybe thats some of the case around here...

      •  I encourage you to do a little research regarding (9+ / 0-)

how labeling things CT became a meme.  It really has little to do with things like somebody saying that an alien kidnapped them last night and took them on an intergalactic voyage...

There are things that are obviously outlandish.

The national security establishment here (CIA, etc.) mastered the art of discrediting activists in multiple ways, and labeling people conspiracy theorists or paranoids or crazy or immoral have been an integral part of that campaign.

These tactics have been so well-developed and used with such frequency, that they became memes adopted by society at large.

You will see a pattern that when people try to connect the dots regarding exactly how those in power (shadow government, or "Deep State") control the system, they are immediately attacked and discredited; labels like conspiracy theorist are often used.

It seems like you are going to have to set up a star chamber to deal with the non-conspirators so as to mitigate their threat to our society.

I think I've seen that movie.

for this diary. WE all need to keep speaking about what is a constitutional right, fair trade. I.e. Someone is paid a fair wage for a decent life in this country, let alone others.
Though infrequent diaries, I've liked you since I googled exponential function in your sig line :)
I like the analogy in this diary as well as the paragraph before

I say put that aside because it really doesn't matter...
