Yesterday I wrote a diary stating Mike Mori at Toledo Blade has hired Ted Nugent to be the Headliner at the annual 4-day Ohio Festival "Toledo Rib Off" which is sponsored by Yark Automotive Group.

The event unfolds Aug. 7 through Aug. 10 at the Lucas County Fairgrounds in Maumee and will feature the musical stylings of controversial Detroit rocker Ted Nugent, veteran Motown band War, and a third act still to be determined.
Today Media Matters reports that Mike Mori will not cancel Ted Nugent even though Ted Nugent has threatened to kill the U.S. President, former female U.S. Secretary of State and two female U.S. Senators:
President Obama,
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton,
US Senator Dianne Feinstein and
US Senator Barbara Boxer.
Media Matters quotes Mike Mori as saying:
"All things being equal I wouldn't bring in a guy who is aggravating people, that is not my intention ... It seems like this thing has kind of ballooned in the last couple months. I will probably think long and hard about inviting him next year.
Mori goes on to say
It surprised me how many calls I got. I'm listening to the people and I probably will do something different next year if I can."

(emphasis me)

What the heck does "if I can" mean?

Mike Mori, the Toledo Blade and Yark Automotive Group all made the decision to hire Nugent to Headline the 4-day Festival. So what does "if I can" mean?  Who above Mori is making the decision to hire Nugent?

Mori's "if I can" quote proves that hiring & refusing to cancel Ted Nugent has nothing to do with current payment obligation but everything to do with: Toledo Blade & Yark Automotive Group approving of everything Ted Nugent says including Nugent's repugnant death threats again the President & others in government.

I personally think Mike Mori should explain what "if I can" means.

I got blind-copied by someone who wrote an email to Mike Mori.  I replied to the person & asked if I could copy/paste their email here. They agreed.

subject: Toledo Ohio Civic Pride versus Ted Nugent making death threats against the President

Dear Mr. Mori,
The city of Longview, Texas is hosting their 2nd annual Festival in July 2014.  They contracted Ted Nugent to play in late 2013.  However, on March 21, 2014 the city cancelled Ted Nugent's appearance and were only obligated to pay him $16,000.00 ... which is not his full contract price.

US District Court for southern district of Ohio ruled that "threatening to kill the President of the United States is akin to treason" in United States v. Stickrath, 242F.151(DCSD Ohio 1917).

In 2012 Ted Nugent threatened to kill the United States President, our female U.S Secretary of State and two female U.S. Senators. No one forced Ted Nugent to make those death threats ... he made those threats willingly, knowingly and with malice. Those threats have nothing to do with "free speech" and those threats have nothing to do with "politics" and those threats were more than just "controversial."  Those death threats made by Nugent are "akin to treason."

Whether anyone likes or dislikes whoever a current, or past, President is, if that person threatens to kill the U.S. President, U.S. Secretary of State and two female U.S. Senators then they should not be rewarded by being hired to Headline a family event.

Ted Nugent is not the right feel for this kind of community event because he threatened to kill the President, US Secretary of State & two female US Senators.

By hiring Ted Nugent, you, the Toledo Blade & Yark Auto Group are giving approval of Nugent's threats to kill the President which stimulates opposition to federally elected leaders, incites the hostile and evil-minded to take the President's life and is an affront to all ration-thinking people.  That is not just my opinion, that is the written sentiment from the Ohio Justices who ruled in United States v. Stickrath.

Community leaders, such as you, Toledo Blade & Yark Auto Group should cancel Ted Nugent & denounce Nugent because of the death threats he made so as to show this community that threatening to kill the President, Secretary of State and two female US Senators is not acceptable and will not be rewarded nor tolerated.

You claim you do not agree with what Ted Nugent says, yet your actions prove different.  The actions you took in 2013 show you do agree with Ted Nugent's death threats of 2012 ... your 2013 actions show you do agree that it is acceptable to threaten to kill the U.S. President. In 2012 Ted Nugent chose to make threats, and you, Toledo Blade & Yark Auto chose to approve and accept Nugent's threats when you all agreed to sign him in 2013.

Threatening to kill the President is wrong for this community.  Hiring Headliners who threatened to kill the President is wrong for this community. Your, Toledo Blades' & Yark Auto Group's actions are wrong for this community.  Yark Auto & Toledo Blade accepting and approving to hire a Headliner who threatened to kill the President is wrong for this community.

My question is this, does the entire Toledo Blade Executive Administrators and the entire family of Yark Auto Group approve of Nugent's threats to kill the President  or is it just of few of you all?

You, Toledo Blade & Yark Auto still have an opportunity to do the right thing which is to cancel Nugent and denounce the death threats Nugent willingly made ... if you all do not cancel Ted Nugent's appearance then you all are showing that yes, you all do approve of people threatening to kill the President.  It is time you, Toledo Blade & Yark Auto Group show civic pride and cancel Ted Nugent from the 4-day family Festival.

Ted Nugent recently said

President Obama is a "subhuman mongrel"
Nugent also has said:
“I was in Chicago and I said hey Obama, you might want to suck on one of these you punk; Obama, he’s a piece of shit, and I told him to suck on my machine gun,”
Nugent screamed during a concert while brandishing two machine guns:
“Then I was in New York and I said, ‘Hey Hillary you might want to ride one of these into the sunset you worthless bitch…. Then I was out in California and I thought, Barbara Boxer, she might want to suck on my machine gun, hey Dianne Feinstein ride one of these you worthless whore.”
Ted Nugent is a racist and wrote in the Washington Times
I'm beginning to wonder if it would have been best had the South won the Civil War.
On radio Ted Nugent said
MTV is a liberal lump of hippy snot. They are embarrassing. Those big uneducated greasy black mongrels on there, they call themselves rap artists.

That's the guy, Ted Nugent, that Mike Mori, Toledo Blade & Yark Automotive Group hired and refuse to cancel to be headliner at an Ohio 4-day family oriented festival.

Why do Mike Mori & the Toledo Blade support & endorse people who want to kill the US President?

Why do Mike Mori & the Toledo Blade support & endorse people who want to kill Hillary Clinton and two female US Senators.

Seems like Mike Mori & the Toledo Blade are pushing for an all white crowd since they hired one of the loudest racists in the country.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

Even though Bush was the Disaster he was no one on the left (I am aware of) called for his assassination. But on the right shooting something perceived as a problem is a go to solution respected for its 'manliness'.

is, in part, what's fueling the anger of the right.

Don't get me wrong, the fact that Obama/Hillary Clinton and others are not the "right kind of people" is fueling the bulk of it but the fact that George W. Bush was an utter failure in everything that he touched as POTUS adds an extra edge onto this anger.

        insert reason de jour here.

Honestly I think they are angry for the same reasons we are, because they party doesn't represent them either and is not 'conservative' at all, in fact radical better describes them. Like us they have no where to turn because they see the other party as worse as do we.

If our system wasn't so broken many issues would not be in either platform because they are so universally accepted they would be a given. Instead we get to chose from: Do you hate gays and want to give tax money away to the rich or do you like gays and want to give tax money away to the rich?

  •  The Dixie Chicks said that they were (10+ / 0-)

ashamed that Bush was Texan. Remember the backlash against them, all by the rightwingers who banned them from being considered "country", who took their albums and burned them, who took their records out of the store.

Immediate reaction and loud cries that the Dixie Chicks were unamerican.

Where is the outcry against a man who wants to kill the president? Where is the effort to destroy his work (records, if any).

Oh wait, the President he is against is Democrat and black. Oh, well, its okay. Nothing to see or hear here.

You really don't have to hire a gun crazed, poopy pants has been, who threatens murder on every pick up.

There are plenty of good rockin' bands much cheaper.

Rick, one thing I appreciate is that you a so polite.  You should read some of the other emails I’ve gotten.

I hired this guy 3 years ago and two years ago.  He is the number one choice by the ribbers who come from all over and cook the ribs.

He has always set attendance records for me. The crowd drinks a lot of beer and is well behaved.

I saw he had apologized for his remarks and that that it was ok.  Obviously it is not with a number of people.

I’m not the type of guy to back out of an agreement.  I will not hire him for next year.

     Thanks for your input.

Forgive me for not believing your statement that you were not aware of Ted's comments.  It's been all over the news, especially his show cancellation(s) in Texas recently.

I hope he draws real well for you and your event is a success, regardless of his or my views.

    Good Luck

Rick, I respect your opinion. I do not support Ted Nugent's views. I hired him before these statements came to light. He has always the first choice of the Ribbers who come from all over to drive this event. He has always been my top draw. I try to have a diverse event. I have an urban band on Thursday and a church day on Sunday. It is very hard to find bands that play for an amount that allows me to keep ticket prices low. With that said, your comments are important and I certainly will take them into account inthe future

I learned of your plans to book Ted Nugent for your event: Toledo Rib-Off to be held in August.

I am appalled at this choice. Ted Nugent goes against the very core values and morals of the hard working residents of Ohio, and specifically Toledo.

I am sure you are aware of what he has called our President, Secretary of State, and many other musical artists, and that he threatened to kill President Obama, Hillary Clinton, and a number of other Public Servants.  Also promised to be either dead or in Prison if Obama was reelected. (Sadly, he did not make good on that promise).  You might also look in to his Draft-Dodging and Pedophilia. (both documented)

If necessary, I will provide links to prove the aforementioned.

On another level, as a musician & music teacher myself, I question the musical validity andentertainment value of this scumbag. Can you name his "hits"?  Would you like to share the lyrics of said "hits" with your family?  ...didn't think so.

I pray that you rethink your booking decision.

    We deserve better.

Ask it they endorse Nugent and if so, when they plan to have him endorse their products on the air.
