I'm helping a friend plan a memorial service for her loved one. Time is short and neither of us has ever had to do this before. They don't want the traditional funeral service/funeral home/church music thing. They aren't religious, but are very spiritual. She's looking into having more of a wake style get-together at a park or perhaps a friend's house. Her loved one will be cremated and ashes scattered over the ocean in time. She doesn't want a minister or member of an organized religion eulogizing her. She did consider trying to find a Wiccan priestess but was afraid that would offend the religious loved ones who did attend so she's trying to keep it secular, although that is still an option if we knew how to contact one.
Here is my question. Are there secular coordinators who do this and how do I find one? Not exactly sure what to google. Right now the only thing we can think of is to approach the funeral home who will take care of the cremation but we'd hoped to find someone now who is independent. She could have days, she may have a couple of weeks. We tried talking to hospice but they keep referring us to ministers. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
