After a week in Konya and Istanbul discussing business with multiple companies I had the opportunity to inquire at times about the state of Turkish politics and the recent election.
The majority of business people I spoke with were very concerned about the status of Turkey's government and the potential for harm to their own business efforts. Since these companies largest business segment is exports they fear further problems will arise due to what was described to me as 'our crazy Prime Minister' who it was felt was using people to garner votes while at the same time as using his position to favor his political elite with government bids. They see more corruption and less transparency as the potential future for the state and worry how this will impact their own bottom line.
As one businessman put it, Turkey is walking a knife's edge now and one misstep could lead to disaster for all.
