Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D. WI):
Since 2011, Governor Scott Walker and extreme Republicans in the state legislature have been intent on making it more difficult for Wisconsinites to cast their ballot.
Just this week, the Governor’s 2011 voter ID law was struck down by a federal judge for being discriminatory and unconstitutional, with the judge noting in his decision that “the defendants could not point to a single instance of known voter impersonation occurring in Wisconsin at any time in the recent past.”
Yet Governor Walker’s crusade against voters’ rights continues unabated. Last month, Governor Walker signed a new law that cuts early voting from three weeks to two weeks and eliminates weekend voting.
Governor Walker and his allies are slowly chipping away at Wisconsinites’ access to the polls. Join me and demand that they stop. Add your name to the petition today.

Wisconsin has a long history of civic participation. We have some of the most progressive voting laws in the country. In 2012, our state had the second highest turnout rate in the nation (and we’re hot on your heels, Minnesota).
We should be working to expand, not restrict, the right to vote. But Governor Walker’s new law does absolutely nothing to benefit the people of Wisconsin – it only benefits Governor Walker and his political cronies.
Cutting back on early voting disproportionately affects folks working multiple jobs, or jobs with inflexible hours. They’re the ones who benefit from the extra time our state allows them to get to the polls -- and those hardest hit by Governor Walker’s new restrictions.
The right to vote is the cornerstone of our democracy. Tell Governor Walker to stop limiting Wisconsinites’ access to the polls. Sign the petition.
