Yesterday, police revealed that they're all but certain that Clayton Kelly didn't act alone when he slipped into a nursing home near Jackson and took pictures of Thad Cochran's ailing wife, Rose.
Kelly is charged with exploitation of a vulnerable adult after police said he gained access to St. Catherine's Village, a nursing home in Madison, and to Rose Cochran's room. He then allegedly took pictures of her that he posted on his blog, "Constitutional Clayton."
A representative of the Madison Police Department said there are other individuals in the case that they'd like to talk to "who might have been part of a conspiracy." At this point, police won't comment further, citing the ongoing investigation.
Gee, ya think? Exploitation of a vulnerable adult is a felony that carries a maximum of 10 years in prison. Kelly is way too small of a fry to have taken that kind of a risk on his own. Somebody else--or a whole lot of somebodies--had to have taken part in this despicable stunt. Even money says that Kelly is singing grand opera to the police right now
That being said, I doubt that one of those somebodies was Chris McDaniel. Simply put, it makes no sense whatsoever for McDaniel to be anywhere near this. He's 41 years old, and if he does manage to dump Cochran and then beat Travis Childers in the general election he'll likely grow old in that seat. Why would he throw a chance like that away, as well as his freedom? As cynical as I've become about Republicans lately, even tea partiers have SOME standards.
