Beginning in July no Kansas town, city or county in Kansas can regulate guns or their use. State law, which pretty much makes Kansas a guns everywhere state now states that NO local government will be permitted to restrict the sale of firearms and ammunition, or regulate how guns are transported and stored, or limit when or where they are carried.
The NRA has declared Kansas' gun laws as a model for the nation.
Republican Gov. Sam Brownback signed the bill in late April. The Kansas State House approved the legislation, 102-19, a day after the Senate passed it, 37-2 in early April.
“Kansans have long believed the right to bear arms is a constitutional right,” Brownback said.
Supporters of the measure say that a variety of inconsistent local regulations have infringed upon gun ownership rights guaranteed by the state and U.S. constitutions. They claim that such local laws empower criminals who will ignore any law and undermine the rights of self protection by the law abiding.
I thought the GOP was opposed to big government and embraced the idea of local authority as the most legitimate expression of true republican ideals?
It can get crazier. In my state, Missouri, Republicans are once again pushing legislation designed to nullify federal gun laws. Originally the legislation criminalized enforcement of those laws by federal agents requiring that state law enforcement prevent federal agents from doing their duty.
