More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

This week was one of the oddest, and most challenging I can remember in a long time. I thought it was just me, but I see just about everyone other than Hunter and MB are also below their typical impact stats.

Did something happen on Tues and for the rest of the week? Could it be that most potential readers were focusing on getting their work done early so they could be ready for family celebrations for the holiday weekends?

I thought yesterday nearly everyone was at family parties, or playing until I saw all the posts on the shooting, which are too much emotionally for me to get too involved with. When I imagine how that must be for the victims and families it is too much for me to handle emotionally.

I don't know how to interpret bharns, but if that is a measure of the collective impact of all the writers of the week I presume it was a lot lower than usual? Do we have a plot of that someplace?

I guess I could go back make a table of each week, and do this easily enough.

It might be interesting to have some kind of indicator some where on the right hand screens tracking the "Total Instantaneous Impact" that is occurring at any moment, as well as a first order information smooth of it over the last 30 minutes to hour.

And, maybe the "Average Dwell Times" of post on the top 12 spots of the FPREC list (Front Page Rec List) and same for the top 20 Recent Post list.

Why? Well, there are certain time when one has put a lot of time into a non-time sensitive post and one would to post it at a time when it has a reasonable chance of being read by  more than just one of two people before it falls into oblivion.

Or at other times,  one may not know if it is a better use of one's time to read, research, comment, catch up on mail, or to write. If one is putting great effort into trying to reach out to non-existent readers, or interpreting a lack of response as a reflection of lack of community interest in certain topics we might be erring.

decent wages don't eliminate jobs. Republicans eliminate jobs; and workers, and prospects, and then excuse it all and call for more austerity. there is no end to their ignorant, arrogant avarice. only political dinosaurs support their treachery.
