Well, this is something I never thought I'd see.

The NRA applauded Texas for a “robust gun culture,” but noted that a number of activists had “crossed the line from enthusiasm to downright foolishness.”
“Now we love AR-15s and AKs as much as anybody, and we know that these sorts of semiautomatic carbines are among the most popular, fastest selling firearms in America today,” the statement said. “Texas, independent-minded and liberty-loving place that it is, doesn’t ban the carrying of loaded long guns in public, nor does it require a permit for this activity. Yet some so-called firearm advocates seem determined to change this.”
“[I]t is a rare sight to see someone sidle up next to you in line for lunch with a 7.62 rifle slung across his chest, much less a whole gaggle of folks descending on the same public venue with similar arms,” the NRA continued. “Let’s not mince words, not only is it rare, it’s downright weird and certainly not a practical way to go normally about your business while being prepared to defend yourself. To those who are not acquainted with the dubious practice of using public displays of firearms as a means to draw attention to oneself or one’s cause, it can be downright scary.”
“Firearm owners face enough challenges these days; we don’t need to be victims of friendly fire,” the organization concluded.
Ouch!
Ya'know when Open Carry Advocates start chasing and harassing a former Marine down the street, they just might have lost the thread of perspective on the point they claim to be trying to make.

So what does Open Carry have to say for itself now? Are they going to take this bit advice in good spirit and possibly consider it might be time to take it down a notch?
Well, um, nope.
“When you’ve got the [Texas State Rifle Association] and the NRA basically coming down on us for standing up for our rights, that’s where our problem is,” Grisham explained. “Because now you guys are siding with Moms Demand Action.”
Yeah, it's that amazing ability to self-victimize and justify ridiculous actions that has led to the aforementioned Marine who had the temerity to stand up to Open Carry - now receiving
Death Threats. Cuz nothing says we really super-duper believe in the 2nd Amendment so much that we'll threaten to KILL someone who dares to use the 1st Amendment against us.
“I got aggravated and I did get a bit snarky,” [James Henry] recalled.
After the confrontation, the activist posted a video to YouTube of Henry returning to his SUV, which had his company name and phone number printed on the side. Soon after that, he started receiving harassing phone calls.
“One said you’re going to wish you had a gun boy when I fill you with holes,” he said.
Open Carry Tarrant County spokesperson Kory Watkins, however, insisted to KDFW that the group had filmed Henry for their own protection. He said that women and children were participating in the firearms rally, and the group felt threatened.
Got that? A pack of guys with a bunch of guns
felt threatened by a Marine armed with a big fat bag of
snark.
But in the end, it was Henry who was forced to change his phone number. He has also started carrying his pistol for protection.
“I’m being used on this one side as a proponent for gun control which I don’t agree with and also being used as a proponent that I’m some crazy left wing guy, which I’m not,” he remarked, adding that the group was “not being ambassadors for responsible gun owners to support gun rights.”
So now they've got people carrying guns, because they're
Afraid of member of Open Carry Attacking Them.
I'm not sure these guys are really going about this in a way that's going to help make their case in the long run. So far they've managed to get themselves banned from Chipotle, made an Marine their enemy and are now getting slammed by the NRA.
What next, they gonna go piss on Ted Nugent's shoes?
