Well sure.
I saw something weird, so I thought it best to assume aliens. Obvious.
Just look at this thing.
Obviously the levels of engineering we are seeing are far beyond anything nature could have produced. Sure natural selection has brought forth amazing things, but there comes a point where intelligent people have to say: there must be something else.
I noticed that it had apparently taken damage, as it wasn't moving but still appeared to be gripping the plywood with its landing gear, right inside the open front door where muddy boots tromp back and forth all day long. So I moved it. I gently coaxed it up onto a cedar shim, and brought it outside. Set it down on the deck and it stayed right where I put it, unmoving.
I felt sad: all those light-years travelled just to break down in a busy place and be squished or eaten. I flipped it over to be sure
and I'll be damned if its landing struts didn't start moving. Slowly at first, just twitching a little, then picking up speed. I flipped it over and it immediately started crawling on the deck-boards, scurried around a little, made a couple hops to test its wings, and flew off and was gone.
I'm not sure, but I have a feeling the thing looked back at me as it was flying away. As if to say thanks, or: "When we invade, you and your family will be spared."
I guess it's the little things that count.
7:44 PM PT: We have a positive ID, from bwren in the comments. This class of ET recon vehicle is known as a Nessus sphinx. Good to know
