"You, my little lady, have it made in the shade."
Hey ladies,
good news: the top Republican in the Senate says you have it all!
Others brought up questions concerning McConnell’s upcoming election, such as his views on women’s issues in Kentucky. The senator said even though Alison Grimes has the female position on the ballot, it doesn’t mean she will win the gender vote.
“I could be wrong, but most of the barriers have been lowered,” said McConnell. “Women voters will look at the same issues as men are.”
No more barriers! Woo! Well, as long as you don't try and be a Republican.
Lots of barriers there. And don't look for parity on reproductive rights. No one is claiming their religion bars dudes from getting vasectomies so they can have lots and lots of consequence-free sex. And really, don't look for
pay parity, either.
Then again, ol' Mitch did concede that he could be wrong that most barriers are gone and that women and men are like totally equal. And it's good that he made that concession, because reality looks a hell of a lot different:
At this point in 2010, Democrats had a narrow congressional-preference lead with women (44%-43%), and the GOP had a significant advantage with white women (51%-36%). Now? Democrats hold a double-digit with all women (50%-38%), and white women are pretty much a jump ball (GOP 45%, Dems 44%).
The only question is, does McConnell know this and is simply lying, or does he truly believe the shit he says?
