Just a couple of articles that got me thinking today.
The effective use of propaganda
Much of Dr Luntz's advice is about the tone and presentation of the Israeli case. He says it is absolutely crucial to exude empathy for Palestinians: "Persuadables [sic] won't care how much you know until they know how much you care. Show Empathy for BOTH sides!" This may explain why a number of Israeli spokesman are almost lachrymose about the plight of Palestinians being pounded by Israeli bombs and shells.
The marginalization of those wanting peace
According to Tamar Hermann, author of The Israeli Peace Movement: A Shattered Dream, the decline of the Israeli peace camp began in the aftermath of the 1993 Oslo accords.
"Most people felt the government was now taking care of the matter: they could do other things," she said. "And when they realised Oslo wasn't working, they still didn't want to protest for fear they would inadvertently be joining forces with the [anti-Oslo] rightwing."
And a sentence that could be used by anyone, but in this case by a Palestinian teacher
"People see me as the enemy. Every day, they point the finger at me. They judge me because I am Arab, no matter what I think or do."
To my mind, but perhaps I am wrong; peace is being held hostage by extremes, any chance of an accord working has been steadily and nefariously undermined by a minority on both sides to such an extent that the majority has become resigned to their dystopian reality.
The Israel Project, with offices in the US and Israel, for use by those "who are on the front lines of fighting the media war for Israel".
On every occasion, the presentation of events by Israeli spokesmen is geared to giving Americans and Europeans the impression that Israel wants peace with the Palestinians and is prepared to compromise to achieve this, when all the evidence is that it does not. Though it was not intended as such, few more revealing studies have been written about modern Israel in times of war and peace.
I suggest you have a read through
The Israel Project’s 2009 GLOBAL LANGUAGE DICTIONARY, oh and by the way the capitalization is Dr Luntz's own.
From the forward Dr Luntz makes it absolutely clear that this is pure propaganda:
And remember, it’s not what you say that counts. It’s what people hear.
