Another Update on this project.
I talked with Jims sister this morning to get an update on him: he's back at his personal care home, he's fairly ill and not feeling well.
I told her about this project and she was thrilled. She said that Jim used to hang around the courthouse in Lawrenceville Georgia - I am assuming this is back in the 70's - and play his guitar and they'd all hang out. She said everybody knew him. She agreed that a guitar would be huge right about now.
This evening, after I ran, I decided to not wait any longer and I zoomed up to the store and got the guitar. I had looked around enough and feel I got a lot of guitar for the money.
Make the jump and you can see it!
Behold!
It's a Schecter Guitar Research Acoustic-Electric Guitar, shallow bowl with electronics. It is fairly thin which I think will make this more useful since he is probably going to spend more and more time sitting somewhere or in a hospital bed, plus there is a lot less reach-around without the full-size back and side.
It's got a lot of abalone work, so it is suitably fancy; it's got a flame maple top underneath the translucent blue finish. It's pretty cool. I thought it was better than just some generic box guitar. And getting it used means I got a lot of real guitar for cheapie new box guitar money.
He is in a care home and this guitar is not as loud to play; though RememberingJello tells me there is a 30w amp available. I think I will hold that over the care home's head as a threat: be good to Jim or he gets amplification.
A Nice Case
Jim will get this guitar and it will be his until he passes on. I advised his sister that when he does go, I want this back, and I will get it to the next person who requires it.
I plan to give this to him Thursday evening. Will record the moment and update to share his reaction with others.
I dropped $300 on the guitar and the badass case: so I am now off to hit up those who volunteered to chip in. Anybody else who feels like chipping in anything, kosmail me.
Thanks very much.
