Good day and welcome to DKos Asheville. This is the weekly DKos Asheville open thread where we get together every weekend to share with everyone what we're all up to in Western North Carolina and beyond. We hope this group serves to invigorate us locally and regionally here on Daily Kos, building on the sense of community that's grown through our online engagement. DKos Asheville can give us all a better sense of connection, a better understanding of who we stand with, work with, and share with. We hope this community can help leverage our orange passion for progressive politics to elect more and better Democrats.
Asheville and all of Western North Carolina are wonderful places to visit. We have a powerful progressive presence, both cultural and political, and for the most part everyone is really nice. And the views are breathtaking. If you've never been here, we promise you'll love it.
This week's edition continues our recent focus on the upcoming Moral Monday Rally in Asheville on Monday, August 4th at 5:00 pm
Our regional community of Kossacks will use the opportunity to get together before the event in downtown Asheville for some food and commraderie. A mini-meet-up actually. Please join the discussion below and come to Asheville Monday afternoon for good friends, good politics and powerful purpose.
Meet-up for DKos Asheville
Where: Rosetta's Kitchen in downtown Asheville. Menu and Directions to 111 Broadway St
Asheville, NC.
When: Monday, August 4th at 2:00 pm
What: A pre-rally meet-up for Kossacks with food, fun and discussion. We will walk to the rally afterwards with hopes of getting a good spot up close.
What to bring: Lunch money, signs, hats, sun glasses and passion.
Our friend, local progressive talk show host Jeff Messer from 880 The Revolution, will be broadcasting live from the event and Bill Press will be joining him for the entire afternoon. Bill is a big supporter of the station and we are proud to have him coming to Asheville!
The following is an excerpt from Jeff's blog. Please read the entire piece for insight into this exciting and powerful event. I called into the show yesterday and spoke briefly about our pre-rally meet up and Jeff invited us to come up and meet Bill Press. Last year we had 10,000 people at Mountain Moral Monday, a record for a political event in Asheville. Please show up and help us break that record! See you on Monday!
Asheville sure knows how to step up, when the need is there. Last year's event was the largest of all Moral Mondays, and it went on the be named the year's most valuable protest by the Nation Magazine.
The bar is set high, as the second Mountain Moral Monday is less than 3 days away.
On our end, we're bringing media legend Bill Press to town, just to sit in with me, and co-anchor the live coverage. Bill has been around, and seen it all. I think he's about to see something special on Monday. I encourage you all to come out and join us, starting at 3 PM, as Bill and I do a special 2 hours before the main event. We want all 880 fans to join us, and be right up front for the entire event!
And, I want to see folks reach out and invite and bring along people they know who may not understand what it's all about, or have only heard the prejudiced reports against the Moral Monday. We need to help open up some people's eyes as to what is really going on.
I think we can convert some folks, who may realize that they are hearing things that apply to them.
This Monday needs to at least be as big as last year, if not bigger. This is an election year, and the passion should be much higher now, than it was last year. So, let's get it together, and let's make it happen.
The right wing in the state are already clearly afraid of what the Moral Movement could mean for this November's mid-term outcome. The solution is simple. But the work to get there is hard. It will be worth it.
