I can hear it now. Whoa, boy. You have gone to far. But no. Hear me out.
The republicans have allowed their current brand of fanaticism to unhinge their judgment. This is good. Why, you ask. . .
For years they have promoted the same agenda as they do now, but always in secret. In the past the leaders of the party, such as Newt Gingrich, had more sense than to reveal what they would actually do if they got power. They knew that their philosophy was unsellable and they would be unelectable.
Now, however, they have no such inhibitions. They overtly and proudly announce what they will impose on us, which seems to be a half-baked Christian Sharia seasoned with plutocracy. They now are bold enough to insist that their own personal philosophy and world view is so valid that they may force it on the rest of us. I rejoice in their forthrightness.
Living in California, I am now seeing commercials run by New York State, offering ten tax free years for any business relocating there. Brilliant! This means that we Californians will have to compete and offer just as favorable an environment if we want to get the jobs.
What if Blue states got together and started running ads in red states, such as. . .
"Do you want to live in a state where the government serves you rather than seeks to own you?"
"Do you want to live in a state where the government believes that (blank) have the same rights as straight, white men?" (You may insert "Women," "Hispanics," "People of color," "Gays," etc., as appropriate. They hate 'em all.)
"Do you want to live in a state where you are encouraged to vote and where every vote counts?"
"Do you want to live in a state which believes that you have the right to earn a decent living from your labor?
"Do you want to live in a state where freedom means that YOU are free?"
"Then come to (name of suitable blue state). We want you."
This obviously is a long range plan to end the republican control of the House, and the main payoff would come after the 2020 census. However, the publicity for us and discomfort for them would be almost immediate. Consider something like this: "The republicans in (some red state) have so abusively mismanaged their state's affairs that good citizens are evacuating." Yummy.
The history of California has been one of imigrants seeking opportunity for a better life, and usually, economic hardship was the impetus. In the L.A. area, Nebraskans and other midwesterners in the twenties and the refugeees from the dust bowl in the thirties made a giant contribution to the prosperity of the region and the state as a whole. Refugees from political hardship should be equally so. We should be solliciting them.
The current gang of republicans have been stupid enough to wear their agenda on their sleeve, giving us a chance to use it as a point of comparison. We should be showing that we offer more to the average citizen, and that they can vote on their current condition with their feet.
We should be clearing a trail for these good folks.
