Roads entering Maine have signs proclaiming "Maine ~ The Way Life Should Be." This year's Pine Tree Quilters Guild show used that slogan as the theme for its quilt challenge.
So how did quilters look at the state? Follow me over the orange scrap thread pile for some samples ;-)
Lighthouses along the coast were depicted in many of the quilts:
Can't forget the lobsters ;-)
Moose and other inland wildlife:
Blueberries featured heavily as well:
The four seasons of a tree:
With detail of the 'leaves':
Not all the quilts focused on the natural world ~ manufacturers from around the state:
Several entries were pretty much collages, with panels showing different aspects of the state:
This may have been my favorite of the collages, with great details:
Maine coon cat:
Whoopie pies:
A local quilter's guild collage, with each piece by a different guild member.... complete with a joke about 'southern Maine' ;-)
Southern Maine (a.k.a. 'Florider'):
By the time I got to this section of the show, it had gotten quite crowded, so some of these pictures aren't the best, as I had trouble getting a clear view from a decent angle :-( Click pictures to go to larger versions at Flickr.
Next diary, to be posted sometime in the next few days ~ the non-Maine quilts from the same show (there were some good ones!).
