This month, I'm up to my fourth grade year, which was a pretty good one, though my family had moved again and I was in another new school. But, I'll leave anything more for the poem, below the orange squiggly dingbat.
Kalliope
Means "beautiful voice" from Greek καλλος (kallos) "beauty" and οψ (ops) "voice". In Greek mythology she was a goddess of epic poetry and eloquence, one of the nine Muses.
Join us every Tuesday afternoon at the Daily Kos community political poetry club.
Your own poetry is always welcome in the comments.
Bongos, berets & turtle neck sweaters optional.
The keyboard is mightier than the sword.
Fourth Grade Memory
What I remember most
Of my fourth grade teacher
Was her encouragement
Of my artistic yearnings.
We were given an assignment
To draw freehand (not traced!)
A witch on her broomstick
Posted on the wall for Halloween.
She liked the one I did so much
That she encouraged classmates
To bring in moss for witch hair,
Pine needles for the broom bristles;
It became something of a class
Project, like a collage, as I recall.
I don't know if I can ever remember
Another time when a teacher
Liked something artistic
That I'd done as well as my
Fourth grade teacher liked
My freehand Halloween witch!
