While a higher percentage of women are raped, there are more male victims in total. They get brutally raped by their "brothers", then the military kicks them out by diagnosing them with a "personality disorder" (which is considered pre-existing so they can't get help from the VA) or other mental illness that makes getting a job nearly impossible. Until Don't Ask Don't Tell was repealed, you could be discharged for being a VICTIM.
I won't add more because the article referenced below has the details of the stories of several men who were assaulted while in the military and many brief comments by other men, often with their name and dates of service and I won't lessen any one of them by selecting from them - they should all be read. It is extremely moving, horrifying and heartbreaking. How we could have a national discussion about rape in the military and NOT address this is mind-boggling. It MUST be outside of the chain of command. It MUST.
