Good day and welcome to DKos Asheville. This is the weekly DKos Asheville open thread for Saturday September 20th. We try to get together every weekend to share with everyone what we're all up to in Western North Carolina and beyond. We hope this group serves to invigorate us locally and regionally here on Daily Kos, building on the sense of community that's grown through our online engagement. DKos Asheville can give us all a better sense of connection, a better understanding of who we stand with, work with, and share with. We hope this community can help leverage our orange passion for progressive politics to elect more and better Democrats.
Asheville and all of Western North Carolina are wonderful places to visit. We have a powerful progressive presence, both cultural and political, and for the most part everyone is really nice. And the views are breathtaking. If you've never been here, we promise you'll love it.
As regular readers know, our next meet-up is scheduled for Saturday October 4th. Jump over the Squiggle of Local Power for more.

Hi, this is David. Randall had to run out real quick and asked me to finish and post the diary for him. I hope everyone is enjoying this gorgeous day here in the mountains of western North Carolina. And for those of you who aren't here, I hope it's a wonderful day wherever you are.
With election day rapidly approaching, and early voting even rapidlier!, there will be feelings of anticipation, perhaps hope, maybe concern, or even worry. Whatever the outcome of the election, that outcome will be our starting point. Whether we lose seats or gain seats in Congress, whether North Carolina elects a Democratic or Republican senator, whatever the outcome, that will be our starting point.
Between now and then, we have the opportunity to work for a better world, in whatever way we feel called to move, to work for a better outcome, for a better future for our children, for our communities, for humanity, for this earth.
And after the election, we will still be working, still doing our part. For each of us, our personal story, our personal journey, is the story of humanity; we are what it is to be human, to be a part of the family of humanity.
We know what it is to be human; and for this reason we care about each other. For this reason, we each do our part to make the world a little better for all of us.
Whether we win or lose on election day, our efforts, the work we do, is not in vain. Each person we touch with kindness is changed. If we open the eyes of just one person to the harm that economic inequality brings, then the world is changed. If we open the eyes of just one person to the harm that greed does to our environment, then the earth is changed. If we open the eyes of just one person to the basic human dignity, equality, and right to freedom that all of our sisters and brothers on this planet deserve, then the future is changed.
And whether we win or lose on election day, our work continues; for it is our privilege to give, to share, to help.
Whatever your feelings about the coming election, whatever your concerns, worries, frustrations, don't let these get in the way of doing what you feel called to do. Look to your heart; trust what your heart knows to be true.
And breathe.
:)
Enjoy your day!
Thanks for stopping by, I hope you have a great weekend and we hope to see you on
