Wind is coming from the east again, and the Estacada fire is only about half contained. I have a sinus headache that is bad enough I spent all of Saturday queasy.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
I really DO feel sorry for the people in the area who have breathing issues. I think the last time I had a headache this bad was at least five years ago. I cannot imagine how anybody with actual health problems is feeling.
Except for my sinuses having conniptions (sufficient that I stayed home from my granddaughter's soccer game), the week has gone well.
All the grant reviews are done and submitted.
My boss reviewed about a dozen small grants for a foundation he's been involved with since it started. He didn't wait for the list of the ones that actually needed to be reviewed, he reviewed every single one he felt competent to assess that he didn't have a conflict of interest with. He has worked with and/or mentored so many researchers in his field that it can sometimes be difficult for him to find proposals he doesn't have a conflict with. All done and submitted. Nobody is planning to tell him he could have waited and done less work.
We have been informed that my boss will have to revise the grades he gave to the NIH grants he had to review, which he will do. He won't like doing it - he actually thought all the grants he was assigned were pretty decent - but he will do it.
And the ACC has finally stepped in to deal with the wonky Disclosures site. There are still three of our authors I am a bit antsy about, but with luck everything will show up as it should be when I check on Monday.
I will have to find out how the soccer game went. The guy who delivers our office supply orders coaches soccer, it turns out, and he will want to know.
And my mother turns 83 on Monday.
