Monday! A day in which I bitch and moan while typing on my phone. Because the floor guys unplugged the computer and we have NO INTERNET. Until DH discovered that the thingie was not, in fact, plugged in. So I no longer have to squint at my phone, developing more crows' feet by the minute.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, earthquakes, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, earthquakes etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
Ok, we do have a diary schedule. But, when you are ready to write that diary, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMOM a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FloridaSNMOM is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.

I hate remodeling, I truly do. Or maybe I like remodeling, but loathe contractors and handymen and painters. Trey (painter) assured me that he would be here to put the baseboards on at 7 am this morning, before Fortino (floor guy) arrived. Instead, I get a text at 7:43 am: "Can't make it, see you tomorrow" was the gist.
I will admit that I wanted to scream and curse at the top of my lungs, but I couldn't because my kids were sleeping. Instead, I developed a blinding headache caused by suppressed rage. I always PLAN things. I am, regrettably, not a "go with the flow" type. I wanted the damn baseboards put on and caulked, so I could move the bookcases back and put my beloved books--probably a couple of thousand--back on the shelves, where they will be happy :)
But nooo. And the floor guys couldn't move the furniture back, again because the asshole painters didn't effing show up Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, as they said they would. Moving the furniture was included in the floor guys' price. NOT the painters at $30/hour. I told him that I would NOT pay their rate for moving furniture that wasn't put back due to THEIR negligence and half-assery. (I didn't actually explain WHY I wouldn't pay, just said that I wouldn't. I'll save the explanation for their boss, if necessary.) Trey assured me that "they'd take care of me."
The painters told me they numbered the baseboards and the drywall. Ok, they did, but then some idiot covered most of the numbers with Kilz. So the baseboards are still mostly on the floor. Removing and putting back the baseboards was also included in the floor guys' price. But they couldn't complete that, either. Damn painters.
But the new paint and floors are wonderful. The basement was painted an awful pinkish-grey. Here's the hallway BEFORE painting:
Hallway, after drywall
And AFTER, with cream paint but without pictures and with the office a damn mess:
Hallway, with floor and paint but baseboards not put back.
This is part of the second "big" room. The storage closet door will no longer close. Dammit. The floor is thicker than the carpet, which makes no sense.
These are the stair treads. They are red oak. I applied Minwax Wood Finish in Gunstock, then heavy-duty Valspar to seal them.
These are the stair risers, also stained and sealed red oak.
Fortino is supposed to come back and do the stairs next week. He has proved extremely reliable, so I am cautiously optimistic.
I am still furious with the painters. Their boss is in Seattle all week. I have refrained from calling him and exploding, since he's on vacation. Plus, there's isn't any point until I see the invoice. If they charge me $30/ hour for moving the furniture, it won't be pretty :)
Thanks for letting me vent :) Hope that everyone has a pleasant evening and Monday. Please forgive me if my hosting is once again spotty. I will be here while having my coffee, probably not much afterwards, as I have to put my books back, hang the pictures, and do everything else that I PLANNED TO DO SUNDAY. @#%**!!
