We need to remember that, while 2014 may be a midterm election year, it's just as important that we vote like we did in the 2012 presidential election cycle & like we will do in the 2016 cycle. There are forces on the highly extreme right-wing that want to shut our voices out for good.
The more I see from writers like Paul Krugman and even Daily Kos' own Paul Hoggarth, it makes me realize just how close we are to really letting the corporatized far right-wing take over Congress this year, and possibly the Presidency in 2 years from now. These guys want to do everything humanly possibly to leave us in a cycle of debt and default, and when things go bust, find a convenient scape-goat (Blacks, Muslims, Hispanics, etc.) to blame everything on. I don't know about anyone here, but this is not the direction we need to head back into. Seriously, what's the point of re-implementing Jim Crow like policies?
Relegalize slavery? Don't get me started with that. But again, I still remember the story of how some State Representative in Nevada called for its restoration (via voting for it if his constituents clamored for its restoration). Don't be that shocked, since if you think about it, this is like the tip of the iceberg of what the Right's been saying for the past 5 years or so. There's other examples that one can look up on either PoliticusUSA, or even here on Daily Kos.
Heck, I even have some examples on my blog: . The point I'm making is that in order to fight the far right wing this year, we need to do what we can to reach out to the American public about what they're struggling with and ask them how we can best help them out.
Anyway, in order for us to help each other out we need a Congress that will give us the resources and tools we need to do so. President Barack Obama cannot do this himself, despite his best efforts in doing so, trying to help us while simultaneously working around a hella recalcitrant Congress who's more interested in giving our tax dollars and sovereignty up to the highest corporate bidder and protecting them so they don't face the scrutiny of the public arena. In short, President Obama needs our help for him to help us dig ourselves out of the hole the Republican controlled 107-9th Congresses and President George W. Bush dug us into.
