I vote for Democrats.
I really have a lot to say (see my comments). But for now I want to keep this brief and say just this much.
I get tons of requests for money everyday from Democratic candidates and frankly I'm getting sick of it. I used to send them a few bucks (what am I the Koch bros?) but I have stopped. I always send them a reply though that expresses my displeasure in their campaign strategies. I never hear from them in reply to my comments.
I always tell them that they don't need more money, that they are misspending the money they have. Most of the money they pull in goes to TV ads. Invariably a TV ad goes like this; candidate is shown walking with his/her family, then with rolled up sleeves, then in a suit in a board room. All the while the American flag waves behind them and lilting music plays. A voice over says this candidate is good for America. THE AD SAYS NOTHING. And in fact the ads are annoying to most people. By the time election day approaches the people have seen these ads thousands of times and they roll their eyes in disgust and turn the volume down. The key word is disgust. You have effectively disgusted your own base.
If they want to convince voters of anything they could buy (much more cheaply than those 15 second ads) a weekly half an hour like the Ginzo knife people do and use the time (not just 15 seconds) to really spell out Bernie Sanders-like how the people are being screwed by the banksters and the military industrial complex. Some people tell me that the "rural voters" don't understand issues like Citizens United but my response to that is, "They will if you tell them." Nobody likes to be cheated, even rubes. Instead we get Allison Grimes trying to distance herself from the one good thing the president has done (ACA), telling Kentuckians that she loves her gun (fair enough), that Mitch McConnell is too old and has been there too long, that she is a true "Kentucky Woman", and that she supports the coal industry. Hardly a visionary.
I'm not giving money to a campaign like that.
I've been watching the conservative Democratic leadership trying to sell themselves as Republican-lite ever since Reagan stole the election from Jimmy Carter by cahooting with Khomenei and riding sensationalist media stories that Jimmy was too soft. If the Democratic leadership thinks it's going to win the House or Senate by winning Republican liberals they couldn't be more wrong. In fact this is precisely why the Democrats don't have greater control of both houses now. The true Democratic base is out there not voting. They're not voting because you are offering them only a watered down version of Republicanism. Give them the real progressive agenda and they will vote and they will vote Democratic.
Stop thinking in terms of who has the biggest war chest. "WE ARE BEING OUTSPENT" they whine into my email every day.
Allison Grimes should be ahead of Mitch McConnell by twenty points.
