I was recently involved in a group discussion of things from the past that people remembered from when they were growing up. While the discussion covered things like outhouses and wood stoves, I started thinking about some of the museum displays of things from our collective past. Today’s topic is: Do you remember----
When grocery stores were not self-serve and the clerk would fill your order from the shelves behind the counter?
When bathtubs looked like this?
Wood cook stoves? I was raised with cook stoves that burned wood and still have the old family stove sitting in the garage collecting dust.
How about the great old rolltop desks, some of which had neat hidden compartments?
Do you remember when shoe stores had X-ray machines so you, and your parents, could see how well you shoes fit?
How about the old-fashioned refrigerators?
I suspect that some of you will remember the antique word processing device known as a typewriter?
Do you remember when telephones had operators?
Do you remember when washing machines looked like this?
Being raised in rural Montana, I have actually used phones like the one shown above.
Have you even been in an old-time soda fountain?
Welcome to Street Prophets Saturday. This is an open thread where we can discuss the past, the present, and the future (such as what’s for dinner), as well as politics, religion, climate change, or whatever’s on your mind.
