Monday! A day for making zucchini fries, and jewelry.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group gives Kossacks a safe place to check in, a daily diary where we can let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, earthquakes, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It also allows us to find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, earthquakes etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a Kosmail and ask to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
We do have a diary schedule. But, when you are ready to write that diary, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMOM a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FloridaSNMOM is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.

I finally ventured down to my poor, hailstorm-shredded garden. While many of the plants had been pretty much decimated, I found two zucchinis! I haven't had zucchini fries in ages. We only used to get them in the summer, at a now-closed Italian restaurant called Three Aces, in Hampton Bays. Even my vegetable-hating father LOVED them. I have never made them, but decided to do so tonight.
My zucchini fries!

Healthy & delicious baked fries made out of zucchinis.
Author: Jen Nikolaus
Recipe type: Snack/Side Dish
Serves: 6
INGREDIENTS
½ cup dry breadcrumbs
½ cup powdered parmesan cheese
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. italian seasoning
1½ tsp. salt
½ tsp. black pepper
2 tsp. all-purpose flour
¼ cup milk
4 medium zucchinis
¼ cup plain nonfat Greek yogurt
1½ tsp. dry ranch dressing mix
1 tsp. milk
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat oven to 425º F. Spray a baking sheet with cooking spray or use parchment paper to cover the bottom of the baking sheet.
In a medium bowl, add the breadcrumbs, parmesan, garlic powder, italian seasoning, salt, pepper and flour. Mix together.
Cut the ends off the zucchini and slice in half lengthwise. Then cut each half into fourths. Then cut each of the long pieces in half again crosswise to make matchstick-type fries.
Pour the milk in a medium sized bowl. Dunk the zucchini sticks into the milk and then dredge into the breadcrumb mixture. Place on the baking sheet in a single layer and repeat until all zucchini are coated.
Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.
In a small bowl, combine Greek yogurt, dressing mix and milk. Serve golden brown zucchini fries with dipping sauce and ENJOY!

I added an egg to the milk (was dubious that milk alone would suffice), skipped the salt entirely, used salt-free seasoning, and made the breadcrumbs from whole-wheat buns. They were delicious!
A very dear friend of mine recently lost her father, and then saw a picture of her ex on Facebook with his new girlfriend. The double whammy was a bit much for her. So I made her a turquoise necklace to help her heal. Turquoise can help with grief and depression. This turquoise was mined in China. It isn't, alas, the most beautiful turquoise, but it was what I had on hand. The spacers are black Swarovski bicorns.
For ABH
I am making a red coral and Swarovski necklace for my old roommate Mary, who only wears navy and black, and a blingy purple bib for R's birthday. I need to make something for my mother before I visit her in November, too. The reason that my jewelry business isn't profitable is because I give so many pieces away =) But it is a peaceful and soothing hobby for me, and makes others happy. I don't declare it on my taxes any more.
What are your projects? The basement stairs were finished today, but I haven't finished refinishing the coffee table.
