I wanted to do a diary about the quilt show but being on the road, on a strange computer has daunted me because I DO HAVE PICTURES!
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, earthquakes, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area, we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

So instead, I am just posting for the good of the group and will have to regale you with wild tales of quilts and greek food when I return. For today, I will tell you a little about the trip so far. Come on in, the rain is fine.
Los Angeles was not as hot over the week end has it had been the preceding few weeks but I was glad to be heading for cooler climes. No great shakes getting out of town other than that I got a new iphone and my daughter is teaching me to use it. She put a navigation program on it that gave us the most amazing directions out of town. You can get on one freeway and stay on it for 500 miles to get here but this program sent us on about 6 freeways that saved us time and kept us off the main thoroughfare. We landed in Willits, Ca, a small town in the heart of the wine country and not an insignificant player in the pot politics of California. It is a colorful town with a small gauge railroad called the Skunk Line that runs out to the coast. The trip is gorgeous but we did not take it this time. Last year, one of the connections was still out, I don't know if it has been repaired yet.
The next day, we drove through the Avenue of the Giants, the last standing groves of ancient redwoods. Truly wonder trees. We made little stops along the way to boost the local economies at Garberville, Fortuna, Loleta-cheese made on the premises before your very eyes, Eureka, and landed in Gold Beach. The storm started in Loleta and pounded the hell out of us until Brookings and then dried up. It is sunny and dry here this morning but the wind chill factor makes it colder than the pectoral muscles of a crone, if you know what i mean.
We are here til Friday morning, then on the road to Lincoln City and points north. Have a good day all. I will check in as can but probably won't comment since this may be my only computer use.
